Rear wiper not working (Disco)
« on: July 04, 2007, 13:08:54 »
Simple question!

The rear wiper is not working on my Disco.  Fuse is OK.  I assume the motor has had it........?

Cheers.

Make sure the drivers door is shut or the wiper won't work...

Assuming you are trying it with the door shut, there are details here about how to replace the motor. They do tend to seize up - without blowing the fuse, strangely :?

Given that the rear wiper will only work with the door shut, have you checked the micro-switch on the door ?

The wiper on mine doesn't work either, and I haven't had the chance to look at it yet, so I'd be interested in what you find out...

I`ve had to change the wiper motor on both my old 95 TDi and current 2001 TD5 because they seized up - took the last one apart to try and free it but well and truly jammed up. I smeared some silicon grease on the spindle of the new one to try and stop the water running into it.

Thanks.

Yes, all doors closed (and the interior lights all come on and off as expected so I assume no problem with switches).

New motor required then

how about disconnecting the motor and run a bit of string into the car and as you go along pull the string back and forth?

I have to ask... Why do they make the wiper work ONLY when the driver door is shut!!!!!  :?:

coz it came from the rangie system. the wash only works when the door is closed too. if the rangie split door is open and there is someone stood behind and the driver pushes the washer then the poor person by the boot gets a face full of water.

thats how i believe it to have come from anyway

just had my back panel off, to repair something else and noticed the 3 wires that feed the w/motor have rubbed thruogh the insulation and are all shorting on the back of the door skin . might be worth a look but i would have thought the fuse would blow for this . cheers alan......

When mine packed up I took it off, stipped it down, cleaned everything up and it has been fine ever since.  You should try this before you assume you need a new one.

It's not because it specifically came from the Range Rover, but it is a result of the same problem. The washer jet is mounted on the rear passenger side pillar and if it were activated with the door open it would spray inside the vehicle.

I was just playing around with mine the other day while driving home in the rain.  It seems that the frequency of wipes is linked with the setting for the front wipers.  Clever guys, those Land Rover engineers.

Never noticed the rear wiper speed change on my old TDi but it certainly changes the frequency on the TD5 when you vary the rotary switch.

sorry for the lack of caps but i've a handful of baby.

strip off the door panel, get in the boot and use a test light to see if you've got feed and earth. if not, its not ur motor at fault.
