2nd battery

Where is the usual/best place to put a second battery in a Discovery? The engine bay looks pretty much occupied to me :?

I put my second battery where the jack and wheel chock is, on the right hand side of the engine bay behind the N/S headlight

There is a battery tray there on all the discos I have seen, that is were mine is.
The jack is then secured on the top of the inner wing next to the turret top.
My motor has been stood on it nose and they are both still in place.

Don't know I made a fixing bracket for mine but it is much the same as the other side.
Just remember if you want to do it right then the battery posts are the other way round or the post are too close to the body.

I seem to have this habit (?) of collecting all sorts of bits of information. Then, in quiet moments all manner of "ideas" come forward. They then have to be checked for feasability, graded by importance and finally put to the finance director (assuming they are over a certain threshold)

Basically, I saw a dual charger kit, or whatever they are called, on e-bay and it made me wonder where I'd fit another battery :D  :lol:

The reason I have a second battery is simple, I have a large caravan and 5 children, all the electrics run on 12v off the caravan internal battery or off the car (Land Rover sorry) and I have in the past come to go out in the morning only to find out that the kids after watching TV or a DVD all night with all the lights on and have only gone to bed when both batteries are flat .
So dad put a second battery on the Disco and an isolator key switch on it, the caravan runs off the second battery and when I pull up I remove the key and pocket it 8) .
Now in the morning I get up, start the car on the origanal battery and then insert the key and charge the second battery up again :D .
The winch, lights etc all run off the second battery too .

Its a case of not overloading the main starting battery with extras, winch, invertors etc, anything that may draw a lot of current, and risk flattening the main one

If on a split charging system, you can have the engine off while using the auxiliary battery but still able to start the motor when needed
