Take a look at this......................
« on: July 13, 2007, 20:56:23 »
For those of you that have never seen this, it is something to see.

The precision in the way they are parked is impressive. The size of the Bone yard" and the number of aircraft stored there is difficult to
comprehend. Of course the important thing to remember is that they are all
capable of being returned to flying condition if the need ever arises,
(providing, of course, that we could come up with the fuel, and crews to
pilot them..... )

If you are ever in the Tucson area, the weekly tours of the bone yard is
still given through the Tucson Air Museum, located just south of Davis
Montham AFB. Both the museum and the bone yard are very popular
attractions in the Arizona desert. The "Bone Yards'" vast inventory is
made more clear in these photographs. Even if you have seen this before,
look again.

1- The 3rd largest Air Force in the world is sitting
on the ground here.

2- It's the only unit in the U.S. Air Force that actually makes a profit.

Grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway,
the good fortune to run into the ones I do,
and the eyesight to tell the difference.

Apparently they have to be kept like that as part of the SALT treaties with Russia so each side can see via satelite of what each other has got to play with.
What is astounding is that the B52's are going through an avionics upgrade to keep them going for another 40+ years. Not bad when you consider that the BUFF was brought into service in the late 1950's.

In theory, but I wouldn't know where to start. Maybe all the Russian planes have been recyled into nuclear power plants or Zil limos.

What? they've got 6 planes? Damn colonials! See, give 'em their independence and it all goes mad! Next thing is they'll be overpaid, over sexed and over here, with their gum and nylons and fridges and air conditioning! I'll have to warn the wife! she wears these new utility knickers! One Yank and they're off, dontcha know? Its just not cricket!
Next thing you'll be telling me they've elected a gibbon as President!
Heavens, whatever next? A Labour Government in this Country? Not while old Winston is still in the chair!
Must go, got to catch the next steamer from Southampton. Going back to the old plantation. I'll just check the memsahib has backed her nighty in the trunk.
Port Out, Starboard Home, eh? Tally ho, chocks away, last one up the crease is a water melon!
