it got stuck here yesterday! i think the thrust bearing has gone looks pretty cool with the arches on now though! steering guard is on too and that looks good.


before it broke, josh wanted a go

took the bolt off of the radius arms and the bushes are rock hard! this is why my articulation is crap at the moment!

You make it sound like he rolled it or something :-.

Clutches go, it's a fact of life.  Fit a new one, H/D if you can then you'll know it's good for a couple of years.

apparently it just had a new clutch when i bought it. but the guy i bought it from looked abit shady so i wouldn't be surprised if it hadn't!
its no big problem, i was expecting these sorts of problems, still doesn't annoy me as much as half the bolts not undoing/coming off! :lol:

and your suspention trouble isnt cos of bush's....my comp truck is on std lr bushes as they last longer and it still flex's like mad
like i said before, the spring rates are all wrong

what ratings are your springs ?

you need some springs on the rear that are 220lb ft or less !!
this cures the problem

yes, i know i made the wrong choice when it came to springs, they are discoHD ones bought them with out thinking...as for the clutch, i dont really know its either the bearing or a "selector fork" maby? i dont really know. probibly a good thing, now ill stopp dicking about with it and actually do some work :lol: :lol: :lol:

change the rear springs for some defender pick up rears ( make sure they are for pick up 90's ) and that will solve your problem mate, we got the springs from scorpion, 100 quid inc posting IIRC they cost

no i hate them! rather go to devon 4x4.
it makes the sound when ever my foot is off the clutch! and it wont move when iits in gear....

i started nocking up the mounting points for my roll cage today.

I think your views are all jumbled - the plan should be above in 3rd Angle BUT your truck build is absolutely fantastic. I've watched it with my mouth wide open from the start.

the exhaust cannot finish under the body like i wanted it to(so I'm told) as it will fail the mot. so my plan is to rout it up the side like on a tractor ! unfortunately if i did this it would interfear with my plan for the raised air intake so it has to be moved to the other side. and to make things worse, the TD5 alive exhaust muffler finishes just in front of the rear wheel so i have to again modify that front pipe(shorten it) so the muffler sits futher down and i can get a bend in under there. does anyone know where i can get hold of a tractor type exhaust heat shield from and does anyone know how much a vertical exhaust will effect air flow??? or is this just not a good idea all together?

I'm not completely up to speed on this post, but who told you the exhaust can't finish underneath the truck? there's a lot of vehicles break that rule.

What I would expect is that the exhaust terminates behind the last opening into the cab, be it vent or window, so that no exhaust gas can be sucked inside.

Heat sheild need be nothing more than a larger tube secured round the outside of your exhaust or silencer with an air gap inbetween.  If you saw the price of the heat sheild that Westfield sell, you'd be making your own :-o

I think having an exhaust that terminates pointing upwards is aa bad idea, the smog will be llifted up into people's faces and any water trapped in there will stay in there.  If you're building a smoke stack it has to be right up to the top of the truck, even then I don't know if there is a minimum height regulation on them.

well its<edit>! went to the garage today and discovered that i have been screwed over! the clutch didn't go it was the gear box.....which was from a v8.....main shaft has been stripped the clutch was in pieces and  a propshaft had to be removed "forcivley" this is not good! i can not express how [!Expletive Deleted!] off i am right now. i tell you its a bloody good thing that the little sh*t i bought it from lives in portsmouth because if he were any closer i would visit with a chock and sledge hammer! its going to cost me over 1500 to get it all sorted! now in all honesty my first thought was to strip it all down and sell it! but no, i admit its a rat wagon but Ive grown attached to it over the past few months and i dont think i could buy a 90 or something and not still wish i had the disco after doing that! it was getting so close to being on the mud too! bloody ;kgnbqepiojbgpieqrhvgbpiasehfbvoaiufvbpoihefvbsidhfbvgljusefbv;piaefbvljsdf bvpuiash!Q

Mate, i seriously admire your skills, especially at your age. no doubt there is some serious experience in your family. this has been one of the longest threads i have read and i am absolutely amazed by how much you have done to it. i am a senior warrant officer in the army and you could seriously put some of my mechanics to shame. i have cooled down since lastnight, called in alot of favors and written alot of iou's but got the price down quite alot.
what had happend was because the gearbox mainshaft(not sure if its called that) was shorter than the tdi the clutch plate wasn't sitting securely and about 9/16Th's of the splines on the clutch plate were unused so all the splines were stripped. what also makes matters worse is that that white wire i pointed out earlier on in the build was the light for the difflock.....which has been permanently on! luckily the backend of the truck is so light and Skipp's around alot it may not have damaged it at all(fingers crossed). the rear propshaft had seazed may be responsible for the emence vibration that was coming through the drivetrain, and a fair few bolts were missing from the top of the gearbox.....one remains in the back of the engine, retaining a bit of bellhousing. oh good! someone needs a punch!
