Is this the youngest, tax exempt series III?
« on: July 25, 2007, 09:32:02 »
Went and picked up my new project last night, its a Series III landy, built in Dec 72, and although it was't registered until Jan 73, it still claims historic status. I drove back from Reddich with it, ran like a dream  :D .

Here's the ad from ebay

It would still be tax exempt, i also had one of these a couple of years ago.  It goes by the manufacture date, so as long as it was manufactured before the end of December 1972 then its tax exempt, also there was a note iirc saying if manufactured before December 31st 1972 and first registered before January 13th (or somewhere thereabouts) 1973 it would be tax exempt.

Cheers Badger, the guy gave me a letter from an historic archiver, giving the month of manufacture. I was pleasently surprised on its condition, all the electrics are sound, the chassis looks and feel pretty good, gears are fine.  :D Really pleased with it.

The wife just   her eyes. clearly doesn't understand the facination with classic Landys

Just wondering where to start  .

He has given me a full set of Pro Comp shocks, a new set of parabolic springs, and new brake pipes. Looks like alot of work ahead, not sure weather to strip it down to the chassis or not.
Any thoughts:

Is it difficult for a DIY mechanic?
Is it worth replacing the engine for a diesel?
Would it be advisable to off road it, or just keep it for green lanes?

Cheers guys.

OMG HAX! :)
I must confess the the activities of the UK governments for the past couple of years have been watched with frank admiration and amazement by Lord Vetinari. Outright theft as a policy had never occured to him.
