Wait for the local tyre fitters boss to go out and then speak to one of the tyre fitters how much for cash. Did that the other weekend. It should of been £50 to take off ol;d tyres and put my new ones on. But he did it for £30 cash with new valves and balanceing as well.

I always change my own, if you get good tryes at cost without the balancing you can save a fortune.

The valves are in boxes and work out at less than 25pence each the garages have to pay for the overheads staff etc so I understand why some charge £3.50 per valve. But they then charge fitting and balancing on top in lots of places.

I use tyre soap cos washing up liquid has a corrosive in it!

To break the bead on the old tyres I drive onto the tyre which works well sometimes takes 2 or 3 runs revolving wheel each time and getting a guide/ friend to watch you on so you don't damage the wheel.

Tyre levers a piece of plastic to go between the lever and the rim then tap lever round with a hammer.

A bit of practice and you'd amaze yourself at the achievement.

Used to change bus and truck tyres the same way co's we didn't have a wee machine to do it.

Cheers H1

try your local landy garage, or any old garage... some will try to charge you extra for "4x4 tyres", but if you look around you'll find places doing it for 5 quid per tyre
