Ahh, but at least someone's admitting that the Prius (& its ilk) are n't the long-term solution
Michael Clarke, spokesman for Kensington& Chelsea, said: "The council has not bought a new car for the mayor for almost 30 years. We hope that this new car will last just as long and will leave as much of a carbon footprint as several Prius cars which may only have a lifespan of four or five years."

What's this got to do with Ken Livingstone then?

Last time I looked he was the Mayor of London not the Borough of Kensington & Chelsea who is, of course, an entirely diffrent person (as the article states).

You're right. Well done Andrew Dalton (Mayor of Kensington & Chelsea) for sticking two fingers up at Ken.

He's not though really is he? He is sticking two fingers up at his electorate and I hope they do likewise. How can he presdie ofver a council increasing taxes based on ludicrous 'green' targets whilst ignoring them himself? Hypocrisy, arrogance spring to mind.

And Ken is just as bad: this week I had a job in London, that for a change required no tools other than me. I got a train from mid-sussex which costs a staggering £28 return for a 50 minute journey. Once in London, I went to the tube to go TWO stops. None of the machines issue short hop tickets, all they want to sell you is all zone passes and oysters, so I have to queue. In the rush hour, there where just ONE clerk operating a window at London Bridge tube. I waited for 20 mins before finally getting served to be told that to travel two stops, a journey of less than 4 miles, it would cost £8.30 single.....

So how is this encouraging people to adopt public transport? Next time I will take the work van instead, pay £20 for fuel and the criminal charge and still be nearly £20 better off and more comfortable to boot. Red Ken is a joke, public transport is a disgrace and London sucks.

The title still says up yours ken, so we all know you're innocent Guy ;)

Besides, as little as I happen to like the guy it's the fact that the position of the "mayor of london" seems to carry so much weight with it outside of the capital,  I don't see the mayor of Rossendale having much say in national transport policy... then again, he's probably just less noisy :)
