i need some help with the discovery
while offroading in bordon today i got stuck in one of the holes
the car conked out and now wont start
i have checked the air intake and there was no water in there and the main air feed pipe was bone dry and there were no nasty noises from the engine so im hoping i caught it early enough so no major damage
the lads at bordon think i have/had a small hole in the intercooler and thats where the water has come in.
called the AA and he thinks the same ,he tried to remove the injectors but couldnt get them to move
need them out to see if its water logged in the bore's
does anybody have a way to remove them or can anybody help me to remove them
i can supply as many cuppa's as required while helping me but dont have any money to pay till the end of the month

How do. saw you leaving, not good. Did you stall in the puddle, could you have sucked it up through the exhaust?

If it tools you need I could help, Happy to come round for moral support but I don't really know what I am doing in that area. sorry.

I was a good day though, really put the 90 to the test and was verry impressed

i think the exhaust was out the water at the time mate becuase the top of the airfilter was dry thats where they think it was the intercooler
been told to find somone with a slide hammer , it comes with all the attachments i need apparently

Diesel Jim on LR4x4 had the same problem as you. He used a slide hammer but had to modify it to remove the injector. It might be worth you contacting him to find out what he did.

Can you remove a glow plug instead? Both injectors and glow plugs go to the  cylinder so it should work.

Not the safest of methods, but losen the injector securing and turn the engine over. Don't have anybody stood in the firing line of the injectors if you try this, I've heard that when a well siezed injector finally let go it traveld same distance at a fair speed.

Have windy wrench althought i dont think its up to shifting those things but welcome to try as I'm not too far from you.

I would imagine a windy wrench could be a dissadvantage in this case ??
As its a relatively small diametre thread to put  a lot of force on, i think gentle and slowly could be better than sudden n violent, A rattle gun i think would either snap it off right away (or come undone) But you would get more "feel" by hand,  Im not knocking you offer of help rich, just trying to assist, Good luck with um
TD5 with a few Tweaks ;o)
a bit more fuel friendly than the V8

are you shure you`ve not overlooked the obvious?

a splash of water getting somewhere it shouldnt could have blown fuses, or soiled contacts..

you say it wont start, is that it wont urn, it wont fire, it spins over fast.. just clicks etc?

Having got the 300TDi apart at the moment it occurs to me that the direct injection has the bowl in the piston, so getting all the water out is not that straightforeward.

done it last night  :D
just removed the glowplugs and disconnected the intercooler top hose and turned the engine over
lots of water come ,just kept going till it was all gone and got a healthy smell of diesel
replaced glowplugs and she started  :D
but when revving there was lots of water spraying out of the top of the intercooler so next job is to drain and clean the intercooler
im well happy it didnt do anymore damage

yes mate saturday greenlaning around liphook/ hindhead area if the lanes are open, what with the foot and mouth problem, the steps at devils punchbowl are in the 10 mile zone i think

the intercooler is under pressure from the turbo, find it hard to see how water could get sucked in through it. more likely to have blown bubbles i'd have thought. as said before more likely to have stalled with an exhaust valve open and water travelling up the exhaust, and filling the bores ?. alan.......

The intercooler is only under pressure when the engine is running on boost.... which it's not most of the time, all other times it's running under vacuum, and would therefore SUCK IN water.....
gone from 200tdi.... to 300tdi... still with loads done to it, in fact, even more than the last truck...LOL!!!

striped all the intercooler down todayto clean it and found the problem
a 2 inch split in the hose that connects the bottom intercooler to themetal pipe which runs to the turbo
now its got all the power back and runs great  :D
but now the starter motor has packed up  :(

starter motor could have burnt out with all that cranking (to get the water out)

...or it could just be ful of cack, as was the troubl with my fourtrak, mud can travel deep into the bits it shouldnt when your playing!  :lol:

took out the starter and cleaned and greased it
found a dodgy wire to the solonoid so repaired and all now ok
she runs great now shes all fixed,loads more power now the intercooler hasnt got a leak
went out laning today all around the local area, had a good day out and nothing went wrong with the disco

just out of curiosity does the motor turn if it does try the problem i had the fuel shut of switch the terminal had worked lose its on the back of the injector pump a roundish iteam with one wire coming out check this as its often over looked
As a youth I could run up and down stairs all day now I'm older it takes me all day just to walk upstairs
