Right after this hassle http://forums.mud-club.com/viewtopic.php?t=46746
I now have the engine running. But she is smoking alot Its blue smoke so must be oil burning. Also took it for a spin and it made a metel like braking sound then it made a cluck sound white smoke came out of the exhurst so turned it off had a look around could not see anything so started her back up she ran ok no more white smoke just back to the blue smoke but now i can hear something like grinding sound from the front end of the engine . So got this week to sort her out as i need it to take me 120 miles to work next tuesday. Just getting fed up of it now. Thinking of just buying a scrapped v8 disco or rangy and droping the engine in my disco.

White smoke is never a good thing, it usually means a head gasket.

If you have the time/finance to drop a new engine in it then i'd do it and take my time on a rebuild of the original.

This may not be the most popular opinion but you'll know you have a sorted motor. It's what I intend to do one day. I'll include the gear and transfer box too.

Yea been thinking about it and as it has to take me to work which is now 120 miles each way. i will be trying to buy a scraped disco or rangy v8 and drop the engine in.

white smoke does not always mean head gasket it could be unburnt Hydrocarbons (fuel) mine has started doing this aswell but mine is carbs Knackered

check your air filters are clean if so, drain the oil out into a bucket with a rag that will filter out any Metal bits if there is any metal bits then look and see what colour they are

Yea will do that got some thicker oil to put in as the stuff i have been using is 10-40 think i pick the wrong one up so now got some 15-50 magnitec to put in it. Also it does kick out white smoke as it runs on lpg which must have water in as it only does it on lpg not petrol.

Ok new engine sorted big thanks to chris putt. Will be picking it up this week and fitting it this week as well. Should be fun. So if anyone is board please feel free to come up and give me a hand (the neighbours are going to love me). Can supplie tea/coffe and bacon butties may even push the boat out and get chocolate biccys  :lol:

Well got new engine and took the old one out yeasterday with much help from bev(sooty) and steve(hairyasrewelder) big thanks to them. So its just put the new engine in  to day and swop a few things ovre into it and job done. Sounds so easy don't it. :roll:  :evil:

It's because LPG contains more hydrogen than petrol, hence the lower calorific value.

Burn hydrogen you get H2O, burn carbon you get CO2
