300 Tdi ABS fault codes

Hi, i have seen one of the threads on the LRO forum which has very helpfull information on diagnosing ABS fault codes. Having now obtained my fault codes and compared it with the list provided, it is sods law that 2 of the fault codes i have on my disco arent shown on the list. They flash as follows:4 - 12 and 4 - 15. Having cleared them, they show themselves if i check immediately again if i turn on the ignition even though i havent moved the vehicle. Can anyone offer some assistance?
Many thanks
Mick

For the people that have read this post and have faults on their ABS, this may be of some interest to you as i have now rectified mine. The fault codes i previously mentioned (4 -12 & 4-15) i ignored and concentrated on clearing the other 3 that related to Sensor faults. No output front right, No signal Front left, no signal rear right. All three sensors had approx 500 ohms however the front left and rear right went open circuit when i moved the loom about. At 200 quid a throw, i cable tied them in a safe secure position where they werent O/C and the faults have cleared. The front right sensor, despite there being a good resistance check, i piggey backed a new one in place (kindly loaned to me from a very helpful local Landy garage). After clearing all fault codes, i took the disco for a quick spin and within the first few meters the ABS light finally went off. Fault cleared. What would have cost me £600 for three new sensors, i have saved the cost of at least 2 and need to find a serviceable second hand one now. I have rechecked the fault codes to find all faults cleared. I have no idea what the 4-12 & 4-15 were but they have gone anyway. hope this helps. mick

Hi there had the same fault codes as you (4-12 and 4-15) along with others.
I just, as you did, ignored the ones that made no sence and worked on the others.
cant remember the codes but had rh front fault rh rear fault and foot pedal switch fault
front was a duff sensor. rear was a loose wheel bearing, replaced both rear bearings and reseated the rear ABS sensors. fitted a new switch.
then managed to buy 2 second hand front range rover sensors from range rover heaven, at £30.00 each, they do come along cheaper but i did a buy it now on ebay. the rangerover ones are more comon than disco ones but are the same part ! ( I bought two as they were cheap, compared to true retail price, and thought I could do with a spare.)
once I cleared all the faults of the ABS memory its been all OK.
Ive offered to help try fix someone elses ABS in kent over this weekend, if they dont need the sensor it will be going spare.

Andy, thanks for the info about the Range Rover sensors. I never thought of looking at getting those.Without doubt i would be most interested in your spare if you dont require it. Can you confirm that it is a good second hand one? cheers mick

Yup, its a working one, i put it on the disco to check it, and its ok. didnt want to turn up to fix the other chaps ABS with it not working !!!
I have heard of another check Which is disconect the conector of the ABS sensor place a voltmeter on the pins in the conector and spin the wheel! If working you should be able to read some voltage generated by the sensor. Hard to do if working alone as I was. Ive not done this check so cannot say if it works or not but the principle makes sence.
Will pm you If I dont use the sensor on the other disco.

Andy, you are right about spinning the wheel and checking for a voltage. As the abs notches on the cv joint poass the pick up sensor, the sensor generates a magnetic pulse which basically shows as a millivoltage. You are right, it isnt that easy to check on your own as i tried last night and the reading is all over the place. Thanks for confirming your sensor though. let me know how you get on with your mates abs. cheers
