Whats the difference?
« on: August 21, 2007, 21:11:16 »
Between a Land Rover 90 pre 1990 body, and a later defender 90 body, I know the air intake is on the left and fuel filler is nearer the front but is there anything else, They look totally different but I cant put my finger on it. Its just the body im bothered about, not the running gear or engine.

Ribbed roof
Non body coloured wheel arch spats
Hinged windscreen
Small tyres (205's)
Lift up door handles on early ones
Galvanised cappings on tubs & doors...early models

I'm sure there's more...
Did everyone see that?  Because I will NOT be doing it again!

Im just wondering why my 90 looks weird compared to others, I think its the roof that makes it look fatter, I fancy a smooth roof!  Are the roofs the same apart from the ribs, or are the earlier ones taller?

My opinion...

What size are the tyres? ...they look small?
The spots on the roof & bumper make both the roof & front end look longer than normal.

Personally I'd keep the roof.  It will look good in Tangiers Orange...with black chequer plate!

I also like the spare on the bonnet...

Still a nice motor...keep changing/moving things until you are happy with it...if we all liked the same designs it'd be very boring!!

 :D

i would keep the ribbed roof, then if anything bad hapens to the landy, at least you`ll have an awsome sledge in the winter!

The tyres are 265/75's But they are quite a big tread, I think it just looks weird compared to other 90's, more rhombus, tilted back like!!!

I can sense a little confusion with people agreeing, it does look different!!

I never did understand the ribbed/smooth roof rubbish, early ones were ribbed, later smooth, but the late TD5's like mine were smooth front, then ribbed back!!
