Ford Galaxy central locking question.

Hi All. I have just bought my wife a 1997 ford galaxy. I have changed the batts in the remote, and it is working. But it doesnt operate the doors. They do however work from the key in the lopck method.

Does anyone know if there is a sequence to get this working again. I know its unlikely with an infared type, but you never know.

Pretty sure early galaxys use same locking system as mondeo, only changed on the later model.
