Rear cargo (or boot) door release - help please
« on: August 27, 2007, 10:36:10 »
Hi Guys,
I have a 1996 ES Discovery, all the doors, releases, central locking everything works well EXCEPT the rear cargo (or boot) door release.

What happens is this, the central locking works fine, the only thing is when you grab the door release handle from outside or inside, the push button heads south and will not allow you to open the door.

there is two ways of opening the door, either someone inside holds the button up and the door operates normally or the other way is that you insert your key into the lock and hold it over so the button can't move and then the door operates normally.

I have stripped the door down and checked for any broken bits or stuff in the bottom of the door.........nothing (not even any rust - very impressed).

I have brought a replacement soliniod from ebay but waiting for it to arrive, is there anything else i can check, as it is a pain in the bum.

thanks in advance,
Gary.

Sounds like the spring in the lock to me? you can't see it when you strip it down until you look into the mechanism itsself

sod to change but amazing difference.

you can get the springs for a rip off price of around a fiver (IMHO) each from Ebay and maybe cheeper sometimes on here

  make sure u DONT follow the instructions that come with the spring lol it states undo the 3 bolts and remove lock......    it forgets to mention all them rods that work the lock and we made my rear door worse trying to fit the spring that frankieboy very kindly gave me and after all this the spring isnt naffed its the actuator or motor bit at the bottom we think now...

take plenty of pics of the rods in place if u do attempt it...
