Same thing happens to ours. At the last service, asked the garage to check it, said they couldn't find a fault.
Doesn't happen very often.

That's strange, it was happening with my wife too, again I thought it was her heavy right boot!!
Happened once with me before going in for the service, touch wood, nothing since.

We had (until this week) a 2002 Td4 Freebie that experienced a similar problem - we had the HDC switch replaced - but under warranty, so don't ask me where it is!

Check the front brakes. HDC, TC and ABS are all interlinked. If the pads are a bit worn then that could be causing the problem. Other bits to check are the wiring to the switch.

Sorry about the late reply ... beeen away !!
Well I cant speak for the Td4 but ..... on the 1.8 you must have 12mm of slack in the throttle cable else the HDC light will come on and go off again as you mentioned earlier. You can adjust it easily at the bracket on the throttle body, just slide the outer cable out of the notch in the bracket give give the square plastic bit half a turn or enough to get some slack at the pedal then slide it back in.... no tools reqd.

Had similar problem on my 2000 1.8 turned out to be fauty brake light switch. Told it is quite common that, they stick on and confuse the ECU.

I have had a similar problem since I changed my rear wheel bearings. Put it on Test Book, no fault codes logged. Have now given both rear ABS wheel senors a tap inwards, Problem gone. To get proper access you'll need to remove the road wheels. Hope this helps
