Leaning angle of a disco?!?!?!?! I found it!!!
« on: September 18, 2007, 17:52:58 »
Last Sunday I went on a trials day with Lee valleys off road club. There was a tight corner and there was a bank that I had eyed up whilst walking the course. I know I need wider turning circles as the course is mostly made for 90's as that is what everyone else has bar me with a disco, my mate with her 110 and a small selection of rangies.

As I went in this hole half up the bank and half in the hole the ground gave way under me.  :(    I was balancing on 1 front wheel and 1 back wheel. I felt it lean down hil then rock up hill. At that point I thought rocking up hill = good for now! So I carefully turned down hill and applied power. It came out with lots of people gasping as they thought I was going over and about to run in the hole to try and catch me.

Here is a photo a few milli seconds after I was rocking. the photo doesnt do the angle justice though. Note the front near side wheel only being half on the ground!    Yes I did need to change my trousers afterwards. I did get a clear round though  :D

Trouble is with any photo on a hill, you never get a picture as impressive as it was at the time.  I also find it generally feels much hairier from the inside of the truck than it looks from the outside!

Not having a protractor and assuming the photograph was taken spot on level and memaking a 45degree angle out of a piece of paper (folded to make a 90 degrees then folded diagonal to get 45 degrees) I would say I am at about 40degrees in that photo.

Sound about right?
