If you need to ring a call centre, then Say No To 0870 is a handy website to get a 'real' (01) phone number for them.

Bunnie had 4 hours! on a mobile to an 0845, the bill came in at 70 quid and even after all that time, never spoke to a human :(
I must confess the the activities of the UK governments for the past couple of years have been watched with frank admiration and amazement by Lord Vetinari. Outright theft as a policy had never occured to him.

I can remember a few times spending between one and two hours on hold for NTL.  Sometimes at the end of that they'd cut you off.  How I laughed.

There's a special place in hell reserved for NTL's management.

Ive tried this and it does work:

When they ask you to press 1 or 2 etc for your options, press a no. thats isnt in the list, continually press 0 or just mash the keypad with your hand. This confuses the automated woman and transfers you to a real person usually quicker than normal.

Then you can actually speak to a person who can help you...although they may think your an idiot as you cant use a phone correctly :D

Yep we had a series of 45-90 minutes on hold for ntl, Even had a top customer service experience moment, When we were on hold for so long  we spoke to a operater but " was too late to help this evening as the office shuts at .... "  It was about a minute before this time

on a positive note  i use to have a credit card company who, if could not answer your call, you could press 1 and they would call you back asap,    And remarkably they did  :D

I called BT to complaint about their driver who knocked the wing mirror off my RR. In the 38 minutes that I waited to get through to the complaints department I typed them a letter... included the fact I'd been on hold for 38 minutes and then sent that to them.

Week and a ten days later and I've heard nowt. I may get some personal service if I perform a winch demo on the nearest telegraph pole mind.

The next letter they get will be from the small claims court and all my time will be charged at £99 an hour as thats what they charge - I will be simply reversing the charges so to speak.
