LRO / LRE / LRM Which is best ??
« on: October 04, 2007, 11:16:39 »
I think I already know there is no answer to my question but I thought I'd kick up a stink anyway.

Being of meager means I do not like spending money and as such I do not buy every glossy mag on the shelf but limit myself to say 1 a month any I tend to buy the one with an article in that interests me at the time.

As I think it would be nice to build a reference library over the coming years (and I may even eblag a few oldies) I want to stick to one publication.

I have however noted that I am tending to buy more LRO's than any other flavour of mag (Too short to reach the top shelf so 4x4 stuff is as dirty as I can get at the local Post Office).

any thoughts ??

I hedge my bets & get all 4

In fact I've been buying 'E','M' & 'E' since their respective first issues, & 'O' since about the 3rd issue.

Overall though
'LRM' has the best balance and the best columnists (Elson, Floyd & Thompson)

'LRO' has the best UK travel features, as there's a big publishing hosue budget to support it

'LRE' for the history side

'LRW' for the laning
Richard A Thackeray
Defender 110Td5 'Heritage Gone, but not forgotten
Jaguar XKR; X88 JLT, also 'gone, but not forgotten'

Yorkshire Born & Bred, and proud of it.

I find TOR is the only mag worth subscribing to as each months is worth buying. I then only buy LR specific mags on contents so some months I don't buy any LR mags and some months I end up buying most of them.

It depends what your intrests are with the LR mags, certainly LRO is not aimed at readers like me and thats despite having had a public school education and daddies range rover.

Every so often LRE does a good article on a modefied LR like the TAZ 90, very informative, but the rest tends to be far too so so.

I find LRM to give the best all round balance of the LR specific mags, with LRW not to far behind on contents.

In terms physical quality on the joining LRO and LRM seem to be the best, but thats low down on my list of prioritys. The TOR mags tend to be poorly stapled, but then are the most read of my mags so will get more wear and tear.

We have subscriptions to LRO (Dads b-day present) and TOR (dunno, we never paid for one so not sure why it comes every month...). I've noticed LRO is aimed towards the 'My wallet's too heavy, please empty' kind of guy, whilst TOR is much more 'on a budget'.  :D

Read a few LRMs too, that's a pretty bloomin good mag.  :)
