Ok,
I am currently spending a small fortune on my Ser 3 so I thought I would go to my local dealers to have a look at a NEW defender - figuring that I would pay it off over the next decade and drive it for the next 2 decades
The object of desire was a new unregistered county 110 double cab.
Good points:
Comfortable seats (And heated!!!)
Willing engine and 6 speed box
New dash would probably squeak less?
This may be the last 'proper' Land Rover with roots back to the original.
Stuff that was the same:
Lack of elbow room
Lack of leg-room for rear passengers
Transmission noise drowns out speaking at 50mph
Bad points:
Surface rust on most (metal!) engine components
Chassis that wasnt completely painted :x
Loose trim (Brand new remember)
Lots of metal swarf under the screwded in carpet
1 x speaker that didnt work at all :?
Some painted rivets, some unpainted :?:
All for the discounted price of £23,500
Now I love Landies and I know they are utility vehicles but this is alot of money and notwithstanding the styling differences (No vents, new dash and seats etc) I think that the workmanship/quality was very very disappointing
So much so that I shall not be buying new and I would not recommend it to a friend.... A real shame.
Disappointed rant over!! :)
