Brake drum removal and refitting on a swb.

I have been told by my lovely local garage that the rear brake drums need replacing. How easy is it to do the job? I have baught new drums and boots for both rear wheels. If it is easy enough to do by myself I will try and save money. I also know I will need to bleed them but I guess that is a 2 person job from helping my Dad in the past on other cars.
Can anyone help as I don't know where to start. Well I know I have to take the wheels off before someone else says that!

You don't need to bleed the brakes to change the drums.

The worst part of the job is the little screw that holds the drum on the hub, they can be a bit of a pug to get out sometimes.  Other than that, it should be a job you can do yourself.

if your changing drums it would be a good idea to change the shoes as t old shoes could wear the drums into an odd shape, better off with new ones, if you are unsure what to do take digital photos of all bits before dissassembly then you can put back together, it really is an easy job though.

I have bought new shoes as well. At £9 or something daft like that I thought it would be silly not too as whilst I have it all appart I may as well do them. Taking digital photos is a brilliant idea. Why didnt i think of that before?

When you strip the shoes off, place them as they are when on, on the floor. Make particular note of how the springs fit. As to the screws Tim mentions, these are drum retaining screws, to keep the drum from coming off with the wheel. I've never known that happen and I don't refit them. And Oh Boy has that bit of advice got me in bother :D  BTW back off the adjusters before doing any thing else.

funny, is that what they're for ?  I though they were there to rust up and stop you removing the drum :-/
