I am thinking about getting an air locking rear diff.
Not sure if its worth the money or if i am better spending the cash on some Extreme tyres and a winch. I have Good year MT's on it now.

What diff is the best to go for the, ARB one

cos when your stuck with " extreme tyre" i,e a agressive pattern ..simex..grizzly... you blinning stuck properly then  :shock:
so what goods the tyres when your stuck and cant get out

Good comments, but I would still opt for the tyres first - experience tells me this. Not every situation where xtreme tyres help is potentially a stuck situation that would need a winch

I'd go winch, tyres, lockers.  Learn to drive properly with non extreme tyres first.  I have seen people go further on MT than Simex just because they knew what they were doing. :roll:

I'd go tyres first, you'll noty get stuck so often.

Next IIRC I got the lockers

Bought a winch last, used it 3 times, 2 of which were shifting a car onto the trailer :roll:

Buy tyres, buy a locker, get a winch kit for your Hi-Lift :wink:

I'd go winch first, less likely to cause damage to your vehicle. Also by learning to drive on MT's further you will get better ground reading skills.

You will also put less stress on your drive system.

Then fit a locker, the less grippy tyres will be more forgiving, while you learn to use it properly and alter your driving style to compensate for the change in traction available.

I was thinking about what all the extra grip and traction might do.

Think its going to be usefull to get a winch.
Im not sure about fitting all the uprated drive shafts because i want that part to go befor i smash up gearboxs, but i am keen on the locker.

I have seen loads of defenders get pulled out of a mud hole on a pay and play day, then someone with lockers came along and made it look easy.

That only works if everyone else doesn't have the same idea, or if a vehicle is equiped witht a winch. That they are getting annoyed having to recover everyone else and just want to play themselves.

You should always have the means to self recover. The more traction you have, the worse your point of failure will be. This will make it harder to recover the vehicle.

I have no trouble finding a winch attached to self proplled ground anchor when I need one (which is not very often), there has got to be getting on for of a dozen 8274s at college :shock: and multiple trucks with 2 winchs on them, poor students I tell you.

I do want to be able to get myself out when stuck and also want both the lockers and winch plus any other bits that will make a big difference to not getting stuck. Its just i can only do one thing at a time ( it not easy telling the other half how much ££££££££££ i have spent on something im going to cover in mud and water)

I want to fit stuff that helps not get stuck but do agree that you should be able to get your self out if needed.
