Purple Live Wire
« on: October 09, 2007, 22:59:33 »
   Have tidied up the rear wiring on the 110 whilst the back panels are out.
I have found a purple wire that is permanently live but not connected to anything :-k It's wired through the loom to the 20Amp fuse top left for AUX etc in the fuse box.  I can't find this on the wiring diagrams anywhere :?
Can someone shed some light on this before I go mad  :?:  :-s  :-({|=
Did everyone see that?  Because I will NOT be doing it again!

I'm fairly sure that's for the rear fag/cigar lighter that gets fitted on the CSW's - is it in a plastic 'multi-block' connector with another wire (black ?),if so, the black is an earth.

No it's on it's own but it has been hacked about a but over it's life time.  Rear 12v connection would make sense but didn't think they did them on 200Tdi defender?  It looks like it's what it is going to be used for anyway  :D

I realised after posting that you have a CSW - doh ! Do you havea rear wash-wipe or heated rear screen........my grey matter is slightly blurred at the mo, but I'm thinking that the purple wire may be for that, but then I may be totally wrong - a few large glasses of Merlot can do that to you

I'd say it's for the interior light one runs up the windscreen frame (purple)as well.

that purple wire runs all over the place, i had a turd of a job figuring out why my fuse for main beam flash and horn kept blowing, turns out its the same circuit as interior light and lighter

it also runs into the rear light cluster on the drivers side in the loom with the rest of the rear wirning. its supposed to be there, i use mine to run my rear interior lighting now.

If it's like the purple wire at the rear of a Disco I, then it's supposed to be a constant live for the 12S socket on a tow bar.

Thanks all

I guessed it ran the interior lights as that's where I traced it too   I can't believe it's running on a 20amp fuse though
I am going to put in some new rear interior lights & a 12v outlet on it  8)
Any suggestions on some good interior lights?  I have a G4 cage in the back like this:

Some slimeline LED's would be good  :D
