Rear Lighting

Has anyone noticed that most discos, they have one rear light dim and the other bright ?  :? Well I see that all time anyway... I was wondering how can we get around this as its same for us and we've changd the bulbs but no difference. I've heard of led bulbs, has anyone tryed these? They do seem quite good... any other sugestions?

I was thinking of installing some LEDs on like the roof line like ya see on back of lorry trailers when they've been slightly customiized  8)

If you mean the bumper mounted lights, mine was the same.

New bulbs made no difference (not LEDs though), but I can't remember if there's a reflector or not??


Having said that, the rear-lights on my 110 certainly have no problems in being seen
They're standard 5/21watt bulbs, the upper pair are; tail/brake, the lower pair; tail/fog

If it's the passenger side that's sightly dim, take the bulb out and clean the inside of the lens. I found there was a coating of soot in mine from the exhaust!  :?

We've decided we're having some LED bulbs in the rear and, we are also having 2 or 3 Red LEDs mounted on top or somewhere on the rear for extra visablilty. Does anyone know how I can fix them on as we don't want to drill any panels.

Clip them to the top edges of the rear-door, a bit like a gutter-mounted CB aeriel mount???, or the rain-gutter????
If you do that the cables can also be hidden??

Cant say I would reccomend them. Had them in the Audi for a while. I found they lasted a fraction of the time as fillament bulbs. Plus the audi needed resistors to stop the bulb failure warning from going off.

In theory LED bulbs may help as its probobly a voltage drop thing, less current drawn by LED bulbs means less voltage drop.

You may be able to fix it by applying some simple electrical skills though. Strip both sides down, clean them. If they are on a common earth then break it on the dim one and provide an earth from somewhere nearby. Check and clean any connectors and replace as needed and you may save some money.
I found I was going through LED tail lights at about 1 ever 2 months, mate with an MR2 found the same too. In comparison I dont think in 4 years I've ever changed the tail light incandescent bulbs.
