then someone else would have come up with something slightly different but not nearly as good and the world would be a worse place for it.

What he said, 8 tides! Plus more. I beleive plate tectonics are influenced by the moon so more seizmic 'incidents' The moon sheilds us from a lot of spacebourne debris, so maybe we'd still have Dinos and no Derv. Or maybe we wouldnt have evolved the same at all.

It happens to some parts of the world as cables are severed and damaged. And indeed in the early 90's someone acidentally knocked Telehouse London/LINX out killing almost all international phone and network connectivity for 2 hours.

Nailing the internet would actually be fairly difficult (thankfully) as the kit used is designed to find other routes should one fail, theres actually a scary amount of intellegence in the 'net' as a whole and it will try to keep itself 'alive' (sounding scary yet?)

The millions of accidents the old gits have daily might ACTUALLY get reported and someone would do something about them? Reather than pretending old people dont really roll cars upside down on garage fourcourts while doing 5mph.
I must confess the the activities of the UK governments for the past couple of years have been watched with frank admiration and amazement by Lord Vetinari. Outright theft as a policy had never occured to him.

Hmmm 2 moons, would I in anyway get to sleep longer 'look darling child of mine the moon is out GO TO SLEEP!!!' ??

If the guy who invented lanies hadn't gone through with it? I'd be a lot fitter, carrying dead birds and shot guns would have been serious exercise.

If the internet packed up? My house would get decorated and the garage would get built, apart from that I'd actually have to go into a shop and interact with REAL people

Oh and if old people did more than 5mph... my dad would be seriously dangerous!

I love it when you're stuck behind somebody doing 40mph in a 50 limit, then you go through a town with a 30mph limit and they still sail through at 40...

I suspect with some of the more extreme forms of curry, you probably could, if you could get your head at the right angle.

Now that IS a scary thought, and whats worse, is its a very possible scenario too. The sun could pretty much fry most electrical gear if it wanted to. its killed satelites before.

You have to remeber what we'd loose too

T'internet - Gone
Any ECU managed cars - Gone
TV - Gone (Satelite TV *might* survive although receivers wont)
ALl the Chav Stereos - Gone

Sounds good untill
National grid (At that level of interference would be SERIOUSLY damaged)
Phone Networks Gone (Although again Iridium might survive)
Most EMS veichles - gone
Life Support systems and Life saving devices which keep 100's of people alive - Gone.

Its sad, but there would be a death toll for such an event, and it'd be pretty high too.

As a result of the cold war and the fact that an atomic produces EMP most Electronics are EMP Protected to a level to which your nervous system is more likely to be damaged. No point in having computer controlled weapons if the enemy can take them out by 1 atom bomb.

1) Life would be Different but most like there would be no life on the planet (different gravitational forces).

2) Life would be Different

3) No Mud Club, Xbox Live, No Google Earth, and I would be digger out my drafting gear as Land-Rovers CAD would pack up (I could invent the Land-Rover Again)

4)it would help but getting agricultural vehicles and wide loads of the road during rush hour to would be better.

My outlook on life:

if all these had been 'the way' then we would be used/adapted to there being 2 moons

again we would be mad over some other type of motorised 'thing'

we would find another way of communicating our passion but only on a 'local' basis untill we meet at shows. where we would stop and chat at stall or the club stands if there were any.

if we didnt have the medical care we did then there wouldnt be old people around to drive fast.

Military and Satelites yes, based on GaAs (Gallium Arsenide) Semiconductors. In todays climate they are a big no-no and dont perform as well as Silicon tecnology which is used in pretty much anything non-military or isnt going into space. You can sheild it but it wont help to omuch. Although an EMP of that size is liable to do more damage to other things and yes, if it was a bomb you wouldnt worry about it.

However Coronal Mass Ejections from the sun can and do cause mayhem although its normally limited to taking down power lines, communications and the odd sattelite.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coronal_mass_ejection

Discovery did a series a few years back along with BBC's Hyperspace that makes you think, it wouldnt take a lot to scythe away all life on the planet.
