How long does your TDi take to heat up?
« on: October 19, 2007, 10:31:17 »
Just curious as I only have 2 cars to go on. Serenity doesnt ever get 'hot' but she warms up quite quick. Where as Roo has normally turned Datalas into a popsicle before he gets here.

SO how long does yours take to warm up, assume a stright run, light traffic on a motorway, 60mph cruise.

By warm I mean any form of heat above 'arctic tundra' so you can start to feel it.
I must confess the the activities of the UK governments for the past couple of years have been watched with frank admiration and amazement by Lord Vetinari. Outright theft as a policy had never occured to him.

My 200tdi 110 gets hot after about 6 miles (10-15 minutes) of driving around country lanes...sorry I'm 15miles from the nearest dual carriage way & 50 miles from the nearest motorway
I do have a kenlowe fan though.
Did everyone see that?  Because I will NOT be doing it again!

Mine is going up the scale by the time I get to the next village about 3-4 miles away. That is the same time as my Rover 620 petrol Not bad.
This is on 30mph for about a mile then 50-60mph to next village.

If I leave it on idal to warm up before going to work then I may as well not bother as it never heats up!

Towing though. Well, a whole new story. About a mile!!!!

If i select heat on the vent, then the temp scale doesnt move from cold.
If its selected to cold(or fresh air) the truck takes about 30min to get upto 1/4 on the scale.

To be fair the soft dash RRC heats up much better than the hard-dash and the TDi is not that horrible a place to be in the winter.  Trouble is if you aren't driving ie stuck in traffic then the engine just doesn't produce enough heat to keep up with the heater.  My Cavalier was the same though

I turn the cabin heater up until the engine has had a bit of time to warm up, all you are doing is robbing heat from the engine and i'd rather wear a coat and get my engine up to proper operating temperature...

Absolute ditto. I timed it on my way to Sodbury and out side it was about 4degrees C.

My results were exactly the same.

difficult to say as i dont have a heater blower that fulfils its purpose at the moment....

although i pull off the end of the street, and into a 60zone, and then turn off 5 miles later and a min later i`m in works carpark, its ust started to trickle through (almost to half way). recent weather has ment i get up, go out, start it, get some wood, light the fire inside, make my breakfast (bacon egg butty!) then see if the ice on the inside of the windscreen has begun to thaw....

NOTE: B&Q value de-icer is as good as breathing across your winscreen, whilst stood behind the vehicle!

....holts stuff rom nice warm indoors worked much better.

i recon urine would be very good for two reasons - its warm, and its salty!

although the neighbours would probly not be best pleased to see you stood on your bonnet leaking on your windscreen first thing in a cold morning.... i would also consider that the "source" of this bio-deicer wouldnt take too kindly to a high level of exposure on the aforementioned frosty morn...

anyway, i`m rambling again, sorry

i am a firm believer i just plain and simple luke warm water always works and never cracks the glass and even if it did that was rac auto windscreen cover is for

i dont believe in standing around for 20 minutes de-icing when u can fill a 2 litre bottle of coke and do it in 30 seconds
