Cobwebs conker'd

A few weeks ago some one did a thread about old wives tales and one of the things mentioned was conkers sending away spiders.

The next day I went out and found some conkers whilst on my round and removed all cobwebs from my lounge and then scatered the cob webs around the lounge.

the results are not 1 cob web in the weeks they have been in there.

Very groovey. Did the other people trying them in thier Landies got a result?

But you cant evict the Landy Spider, it just wouldn't right coming back to the Landy and not finding several new cob webs.

if my spider left i would have to go to the main steelers to get a quote on replacement.....the after market ones just arnt the same

That was me  :)   I was very sceptical at first, but being gullable we tried and conkered

I tried it out as well in my SJ and now no cobwebs. I told other people about it and they laughed at me. what happens in the summer tho where can i get conkers all year round.

Noticed that the one room we dont have spiders in is our bedroom. Then on Sat morning noticed that Alison had a conker sat in her odds and ends bowl on the dresser. Anyone know WHY this works?

i do.
apparently its the odour given off (we cant smell it for some reason) when the conkers get older. the spiders dont like it so they go away....

On a slightly related topic I heard recently that using Vinegar on Conkers had been oulawed in serious competition.

Apparenlty the latest thing is urine :(

That would be enough to put me off my stroke "am I right in thinking you've p***ed on that"

Let's hope the same doesn't go for fish and chips :lol:

Anyone know WHY this works?

It's because of the great spider/snail wars of 1837 during which time the snails used a cunning blend of varnish and paint to camouflage themselves as conkers before unleashing sluggish death on their spider overlords.

The spiders, who were thwarted in their attempts to enslave the snail race (they wanted the slime to boil up into spider webbing) never forgot how their little toes got all caught up in the gloop and it's left a long lasting series of psychological effects on the poor spiders,  such as being afraid of conkers and attempting to wash their feet whenever they see a bathtub.
