Jimny Transfer box problem
« on: October 21, 2007, 23:29:31 »
My mate has got a 2 year old Jimny which has developed a pronounced ticking sound which is coming from the transfer box. It has been back to the main dealer (for a month) to get sorted and a 1000miles later the problemis still there. A new fault has also surfaced. When you press the button for 4wd, there is a crunching of gears and expensive sounds coming from the drivetrain.

Any ideas folks, it is going back the the main dealers this week so it would be nice for him to go with a few facts up his sleeve  8)

Cheers
John

If the noise is coming from the transfer box then it is more than likely the Hyvo chain. What milage has it done? Repacement chains are easy to fit but I was quoted £274 + vat for a new one (supply - not fitted)? I was cheaper to get a second hand transfer box.

Well my mate has got his Jimny back from the main dealer. When he took the car in last time they took the transfer box out and refurbed it. Problem still existed but the dealer said it would quieten down in time.  Well as expected it didn't. I told him to take it back and tell them if it wasn't sorted out once and for all, he was rejecting the vehicle under the sale of goods act as "not fit for purpose"  Surprisingly, they fitted a new tranfer box and sorted out the crunching.

Moral is - don't be afraid to quote your rights under consumer law
