my clutch has just seemed to completly change on me, it now bites as i lift the pedel off the floor and has nothing anywhere near the top, i have been told it could just be air in the pipe, and could just need bleeding but i really need to know, so i can fix the problem asap :?

cheers mf

It sounds more like the arm has given up to me. Its a common problem on the 200/300 tdi,s. Ive had it happen to me. And the same symptoms. Very little clutch. When i stripped mine i found the clutch was infact hardly worn. But the falcrum pin on the arm had worn through. I have also done a freinds disco recently, and his arm had split and splayed at the release bearing end.

So two different faults, both with the same symptoms.

By the way, the parts to fix are only £20 from a main dealer. But it means removing the gearbox, or engine, which ever way you prefer, and youd might aswell change the clutch at the same time.

But by all means try and bleed it first. :)

Could be air in the system...hows the fluid level?  A seal in the master or slave cylinder could have gone...usually the clutch pedal drips clutch fluid if the master cylinder has gone.
Very easy to bleed the clutch.  A garage should be able to do it in about 5mins...if it is just air in the system.
Did everyone see that?  Because I will NOT be doing it again!

Pump it a few times and see if that affects where it bites. Any air would be compressed so changing the position.

sounds to me asif you've got air in the system, low biting point means somethings not well in the hydraulic system

or in some cases ive delt with, the release bearing has pushed itself back off its plastic carrier

if the clutch fork has punched thorugh, its locks solid, its neither here nor there, it just goes
ive seen them go, replaced many, and also had mine go last thursday on my challenge truck

Mine did a very similar thing recently and was seals gone in slave cylinder - not big job and only cost around £12.
