i got a 200tdi h reg with spots on the nudge just wondering how you can wire these up to come on with the main beam.

Hello colin,

From the switch there should 2 wires (or maybe 3 if it's illuminated)
One will go to a live feed the other will go the relay / or straight to the spot if no relay.  

If there is a relay, take another wire from this 'pin' if you want to keep the switch, if not remove the switch completely and just take a wire from this pin one of the headlights.

Using a multimeter (or colour given by the haynes manual) use a scotch connector to connect this wire to the full beam switch. This will mean when you turn on the full beam it's wire will become live and send a signal to the relay to open and turn on the spots.

I hope that was clear, if not let me know and I'll try to send you some pics.

It would help if you could trace the switch wire and find out if you have a relay or not.

Headlight main beam wire in my Disco 1 H plate was orange and white if this helps  :wink:

If you don't have a relay fitted, better fit one. The spots need to take power from the battery, via the relay, not the main beam circuit.
 If the spots are run through a switch, it's possible that they don't have a relay fitted.
 Stick in a relay as described above, and ditch the switch.

If you don't have a relay fitted most places will supply a relay 'kit' for spots. Paddocks do one for about £5/£6 however most motor factors can also supply them.

They normally retail for about £12 and are in my opinion better as you get a load of pre-wired and colour coded wires and the diagrams are very easy to follow.

If you go the motor facor route copy the diagram on the relay and write down or draw the lengths of wire that you get in the kit. That way should you need anymore wiring kits you can normally do your own with new parts for about £4 or for free if you go to a scrappy and pick up a relay and some suitable wires.

Relays are the only way to go really, very simple and very safe.
