Only me again!

been down the lock up and taken rangie for drive up and down the road trying to see what is up with the box.
when driving it in diff lock and hi or low it seem s to work fine but when i take it out of diff lock it drives like a bag of
<edit>. Could this be the transfer box or the gear box??

I'd say transfer box, that's where the centre diff is (along with diff lock obvioulsy).

When you say bag of spanners, is this the grating/jumping and generally being a nuisance?

Also you say it's fine in difflock, what happens on a tight turn? any banging? any winding up? (tyres scrubbing etc)
