what to do ?

hi all i am in a situation ..... i have fitted uprated bulbs into the misstress and they are working brillant (lol)  but looking at some of the posts on here i am now panicking  as i am now worred that the wireing loom is not going to last. the bulbs are 80/100 wats and seem to be all right (fingers crossed) do i need to sort out new wireing to be on the safe side or will it be allright ? any input would be very thankfull

The loom *should* be fine.
The only reason for fitting the uprated loom is more power to the bulbs so they are brighter.

I DONT THINK THATS GONNA BE VERY CLEVER OVER A PERIOD OF TIME, BUT WHAT DO I KNOW, IVE ONLY HAD 3 LANDROVER DASH FIRES DUE TO NOT RELAYING SPOTLIGHT FROM THE LOOM.
ONE NIGHT THE LIGHT STALK WILL BURN.
THAT SAID, I HAD WIRED EXTRA PAIR OF LAMPS ON ALL OCCASIONS, BUT I WOULD STONGLY ADVISE REALYING THEM JUST TO BE SAFE, THE WIRING AND SWITCHES ARE NOTORIOUSLY CRAP IN THE EARLIER LANDROVERS, THE 300TDI + ARE BETTER I BELIEVE.

Umm, he's fitted 80/100's which is quite a bit more powerful than the 55/60's fitted as standard so I think the wiring loom is gonna be a bit stressed.

Your wiring loom is being asked to handle 60% more current than it was designed for .. do you think Land Rover put that much safety margin into the wiring (bearing in mind the price of copper)?

As an aside from the electrical aspect I think 80/100W bulbs are illegal on the road. I could be wrong and if so someone will be along in a minute to correct me  :)

there only illegal if u get caught, alot of ppl use uprated bulbs now an theres not really a way police can check them, iv got offroad 100/80w rally bulbs in my corsa an theyve been in there 4 a year, exellent down the lanes at night  8)

Not sure about the dipped beam, but I think the maximum is less than 80 watts.  For a main beam the maximum is 99 watts.

Anyway, if you don't use a relay nearer the bulb then the extra current will probably cause a voltage drop accross all the factory wiring, switches/joins etc such that your new bulbs won't be as bright as they should be.

I've tried them and I don't bother anymore, modern Halogen bulbs are much brighter than they were when the Disco was built anyway.

been running HID bulbs in the headlamps  and H3 hid in my front spots, they make a hell of a differance,
they take a bit of time to line up properly. but would be one of the first upgrades I would do to any car I bought.

No, they're illegal whether you get caught or not and if you think the local boys in blue don't have the brains/ability to pop out your bulbs to see what's written on them then you're probably wrong.

Even if the bulbs are unmarked then it's a simple task to determine the wattage of the bulb ... takes about 2 minutes  :shock:

I'm trying a set out at the moment and when you're in the car it takes some seeing to notice a difference.  Until you climb straight out of one car into another :shock:

Yes, now I can see what you mean, though I don't think those clear lense prismatic headlamps are very good with them though, I'll have to dig the old ones out of the loft :?
