The hardest simple job.

OK, why do simple jobs take so long?

My headlight bulb went on my Disco.  Simple job to replace ~ well, it would have been if space wasn't so tight behind the headlight (or do I just have frying pan hands?).

It took nearly an hour of swearing and scrapped knuckles to get the old one out and the new one in  :oops:

Anyone else had to fight with a stupid, simple job?

Um .... either thump the bottom so it pops off the knuckle or unclip the big plastic thing the knuckle is connected to (easy access). Then the lens falls forwards - takes about a minute to change the lamp  :shock:

You wait till you have to do one at the back mate,  you might as well just sell it I don't think you'd live long enough of have the vocabulary to swear enough for them :)

honestly, I've never known one in a more awkward position

I though maybe the lamp should come out ~ maybe I should have read the workshop manual first.

Just about all of them, it's just my headlights seem to have a habit of falling out so replacing lamps is easy enough, you just pick it up off the floor first.

2 torx screws & out comes the dickie seats, cover off & your in

2 min to swap bulbs & away you go

Its not just lamps [or blubs] i have found hard on the 110 .
I find that if i take some thing off to fix etc it's best to use the landrovers friend copper ease before you put it back together.
Then next time it needs to come off it might be a bit easyer

Never ever ever ever EVER use that stuff near electricals!
Seriously, dont, you'd be better off using salty water saftey wise.

Electrolube do some stuff just for that and white lithuim based grease will work eaqually well.

I might have got the wrong end of the stick here though, if so ignore me :)

Simple gude to replacing Defender headlamp bulb/lamp/magic glowing thing.

Remove Sidelight and Indicator (50% chance that they will need replacing with new units anyway)

Remove plastic headlamp surround.

Go back indoors and get cordless drill.

Drill out at least 1 of the blobs of rust that are laughably described as screws, watching large lumps of rust falling off the remains of the bowl.

Replace magic glowing thing.

Reassemble with whatever "screws" that are still moderately usable and pray that it will all hold together until new parts can be obtained.

Plan trip  to parts supplier to get new set of headlamp bowls.

Guess what I've been doing this afternoon.  :lol:

Each time I look at the electrical system I find myself looking for my blowlamp and a bottle of meths.

reach up behind lamps.

go blind from all the mud that drops in your eyes.
choke as it drops into mouth and nose.

bend hand back on itsself to get indicator bulb out

reverse to put back in.

Land Rover ownership go's 2 ways
1. You learn lots about cars and you execpt that it really was designed in a pub, built in a shed by the factory

Yes you did but i won't ignore you mate.
I ment bolts, nuts etc.
The elecs i leave if it looks too much ,and my Dad a ring.
