Guys, as usual done a few searches but failed to find anything.

Looking for my new disco and have been thinking about importing. The cars on this site look interesting....

anybody heard of or dealt with them (or any other import company)??

What are pro's and cons of buying an import??

Is the insurance or servicing extra?

Your experience wouldbe helpful.

Sorry - don't know the company.

I bought an imported 96 Plate Disco with 48k for £4400 from a garage in Basingstoke which had taken it in Part Ex.

No rust at all - great condition. Servicing is the same as UK vehicles. Old/New insurers are not bothered about the fact it's an import.

Love it to bits.

Can you get some kind of service history with imported vehicles???

there an awful lot of money, but you wont find better condition 300tdi's
most tend to be auto's aswell :?

in my mind they seem a little on the pricey side but just look at the condition of them no rot from what i can see and really low milage on some of the diesel models and also they seem to have some choice to look at all in one place.my old man used to say YOU ONLY GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR BOY and he was usually right!!! they are also oferring 6 months warrenty on them so they are more reputable than a private seller in my mind.but having said that i have no idea of them as a company as they are well out of my price bracket :cry:  :cry:

Hi from New Zealand!  8)

I am on my 4th imported Disco!! They are clean ( as a rule) and usualy reasonably speced. You won't find Td5s in Japan. None imported. S1 + S2 V8s aplenty. I am running my 3rd 300 Tdi :shock:  at the mo (just sold me S2 V8). It is Auto and has EDC (as do most). Droopy headling is normal due to the heat knackering the glue. My advice is get the cambelt changed 'cos it won't have been and do the 'P' gasket at the same time. Also, fully service and you will be all good. Oh, no alarms are fitted to series 1 Discos there (which is good if reading about them on this site is a guide). Wiring is there tho.

My previous LR was a RRC purchased at 12 years old with collapsed sills/holed floor/welded inner wings, etc. Still manged another 5 years before I broke it for spares. 17 years in total.

My Disco has no rust. Even without proactive rust protection, it could go on for another 17 years. With regular treatment it will outlast me.

Other than mine, I've seen maybe 3 Discos in Japan that are actually taken off road (and those were in magazines).  So off road abuse/damage is usually non-existant.

Any vehicle with more than 100,000 km (not miles, mind you) on it is considered ready for the scrap heap.  Bargains abound for "high" milage vehicles.  (especially Discos)

I think '96 was the last year diesel Land Rovers were imported into Japan.  All current models (including Defenders) are V8s, with the exception of my wife's 2007 Disco, with the 4 litre V6.

One of the reasons that Land Rover has lost some of the popularity it once had in Japan is that by catering to the American market (and it's love affair with huge engines) they are pricing themselves out of the market.  Biennial vehicle inspection costs and road taxes are based on engine size here.

FYI, for all practical purposes, it is illegal to swap out engines.  The serial number on engine is registered and checked.

Consider waxyol / rust proofing / underseal / etc but do it BEFORE the onset of winter and salt on the roads!

Should help make a rot free motor even better
