what with recent discussions and the government saying they will not change the law regarding how much force you can use to protect your property, i see they say they will educate everyone as to what reasonable force is!, what do you consider to be reasonable force?
personally if someone was in my house i would be kicking the living daylights out of them unless they were armed in which case they would force me to unleash--The Wife!!! Waking her up at some ungodly hour is not to be recomended :shock: I know i have the scars

Yeah, I'm with you. In that situation you have no idea what or who you are dealing with. If I found a stranger in my house I would regard 'reasonable force' as being whatever it took to ensure that he didn't get up again :!: I'd rather be around to defend my actions in court than risk a different outcome.

The phrase 'Ivory Towers' always comes to mind in situations like this.

We've got 2 'Burglar Containment' alarms in the house, who require no arming or maintainance.
That's to say 2 grumpy, territorial & (very) stranger-unfriendly Border Collies.

There's also a 4 D-cell 'Mag-Lite' kept at the side of our bed,just in case there's a power cut.
After all I don't want to trip over someone (sorry.... thing) coming down stairs & 'accidentally' hit it :lol:

Not that it was a bad area by any definition of the word, in almost 10 years we never even had a bottle of milk taken.
I've left (inadvertantly) the Discovery unlocked with a window down a few times overnight on the roadside & it's obviously still been there.

SWMBO was renown amongst the neighbours for doing the same with her Astra, & subsequently, the Fabia.

Dose that mean it's like ear defenders at work they are there but you don't have to use them. It's the fact that you have offered them .

It would be illegal to keep and use a baseball bat on any intruder. However, it would be OK to use a bedside lamp in the bedroom, a poker in the living room, and a saucepan in the kitchen. An axe in the garden shed might be a different thing . :roll:

If anyone came into my house then they would be leaving in tesco carrier bags. Anyone on my hill after 9pm gets told to go to f**k and they never come back. My personal view is that we should be able to use whatever force nessecary to keep our familys and homes safe, wether it be shotgun, baseball bat, torch, hand bag or slipper because the moment some one breaks into a house they loose all their human rights.

The trick is to use just enough force to create a larger effect.

I.e wait at the top of the stairs and give them a hefty whack when they get to the top step, so creating the 'opportunity' for them to do themselves damage by falling down the stairs.

As im only 5ft 1" and weigh 9 stone, im sorry but if anyone came into our house and confronted me, the queensbury rules would go straight out of the window and ide pick the first thing up i can lay my hands on and use it to get the buggr out. Hopefully the courts would be in my favour as im a short a**e, self defense and all that.

As far as I'm concerned, if some-one breaks into my property, or tries to make off with anything of mine, they have forgone any rights what-so-ever. Reasonable force to me, means hit them with whatever is at hand, put them down, (Hopefully), and keep them there. My shotguns are kept in the loft for safety. My safety! I know that I would NOT hesitate to use them. Unfortunately justice is something that has disappeared from this country. Gilbert and Sullivan had the right idea. Make the punishment fit the crime. I say bring back corporal punishment, the birch and stocks. As for the term, Name with held for legal reasons, for under 17's. Name them and their parents. God save us from the politically correct, enviromentalists, do-gooders, Tony Blair and The Wicked Witch. Fat chance. :( I'd better stop now. My blood pressure is riseing.
