The nuts for land rover alloy wheels look like thisThe taper at the bottem means they can be used on steel wheels, but does not contact the alloy wheel. There are older style alloy wheels nuts which didn't have the taper or the shinny tin cap which in my view makes them superiour, those caps are prone to damage if you over tighten them which is why a lot of the people I know stuggle to get a socket on them.Early series and later vehicles like P38 or disco2 aside, standard steel and alloy wheel nuts both take a 27mm socket.
