MoT today
« on: November 07, 2007, 20:19:39 »
Took the 110 in for it's annual today - passed with flying colours, the smoke 'score' was 0.56 - the lowest they've seen on a Defender  :D

Seeing as I've ripped all the EGR stuff out, and fitted a bypass kit, and still scored really low..........it makes a mockery of the whole EGR idea !

Nice one on the MOT Jimbo  =D>

Now, I'm no expert at all here, but can't it be a bad sign if your emmissions are too low? I seem to remember having a conversation with our MOT tester & him saying something like that.
I will happily stand corrected if I'm wrong though

Oh, I'm not complaining - what I was trying to say was if they are this low *without* the EGR, what would the reading be *with* all the EGR muck fitted

is that not because the EGR reduces a different gas (something or other oxide) rather than the CO2 which is measured on the emmisions test?

Could be !, the test sheet I have is called an 'MOT Exhaust Emissions Test Result', and details the 'Smokemeter' machine type, the only figure on the sheet (and the one the MoT tester pointed at) is the 'Opacity measured' value which is 0.56 l/m (which I assume to be litres per metre ?). My average measurement was 0.56, the Opacity limit is quoted as 3.00 (3 what I don't know !!!!)

Interestingly, the Disco passed its MoT today - emissions were tested (the Inspectors are in the area - my local station got done bit style, court appearance, huge fine and they lost their testing licence for 5 years   ), although the Disco passed the emissions test, I didn't get a record of what it scored  :?

I think that the only time EGR doesn't do anything is when you give it the full right boot............that's unless you've removed all the EGR gubbins and blanked off various holes - and then it definitely doesn't do anything!
