I am glad I was driving a Disco
« on: November 09, 2007, 20:29:15 »
Well the side of my 300 Tdi was well and trully smacked a week last Tuesday :( .
I was run into by an agrogate lorry going onto the M67 at Denton, I was in the inside lane and the next think I know is the drivers side being ripped apart. According to the lorry driver it was my fault  :?: , could this be because I was in the inside lane :?:
So instead of spending money on a winch and bumper, checker plate for the rear floor, cargo fastenings, some new tyres and a new sterio I have had to buy a new Disco. As for the bathroom and kitchen She Who Must be Obeyed was not a happy bummy to put it mildley as I have been promising her I would do them for months now.
As per normal the insurance have made a stupid offer for mine so I am waiting for the to come back with the next one

Lorrie drivers will always say it's someone else's fault.  Not having a go at anuonme in particular but I often get the impression that just because they get payed for it it makes them professionals and by that justification they are always right, even if they are wrong.

Like I always say to my pupils though, you never notice the good ones.

Like the one that had convinced a lady driver she was in the wrong when she braked because some ducks were walking across the road and he (the truck driver) ran into the back of her. I arrived after the impact, offered the lady my phone to call for help, and luckily just got his number as he [!Expletive Deleted!] off whilst she was telling me how it was all her fault. The motorcycle cop that attended a few mins later was not at all amused by the truck drivers actions.

Going up to Croydon at 5am one morning, on the M25 the old variable limits came up just as I was entering it, 'Accident ahead' Got about half a mile up to a lorry parked accross two laned and a hard shoulder. Half under it oant out the other side, a little Puggy thing, roof gone, mum and baby in a baby seat unharmes in shock.

Dopey driver just drove over the car, was bareley awake enough to speak to anyone and tried to drive off till I took his keys.
I must confess the the activities of the UK governments for the past couple of years have been watched with frank admiration and amazement by Lord Vetinari. Outright theft as a policy had never occured to him.

Manouvre - Signal - Mirror !

They are a pain in the backside.

One overtakes another doing the same speed and we all have to wait as it takes them 5 miles to pass each other.

Put the freight back on the railway - congestion cured.

Yeap, freight back on the rails, it's the most efficient way of moving it anyway and it would create thousands of jobs for people who live in this country.

Where would you find enough space (and money) to build all the railfreight terminals you'd need? Just about every bit of space close to cities and towns are given over to housing developments.

I'm afraid that once Mr Beeching had his way the practicality of rail freight in the UK went out of the window.
