My rear lights are rubbish!

I'm getting a bit fed up of rear lights that stop working. Are there any replacements available that work well?

Preferably LED and a direct replacement.. and i guess they should look good! What are NAS spec lights like?

NAS spec lights are good, but one on from that you can get a LED version of the NAS light.  Often see them fitted to buses.

Once place I've used before (local to me) is http://www.s-v-c.co.uk/lights_rear.html

95mm UltraBright LED's are about halfway down the page.

I've got doubled up 'NAS' lamps on my 110
Upper pair are tail/stop, lower pair are tail/fog

They're certainly bright enough!!, and considerably bigger too!! (sequence of images)

IVE JUST FITED LED TO MINE, THEY ARE ACE, BUT, EXPENSIVE, AND YOU WILL NEED A COUPLE OF BALLAST RESISTORS PER CIRCUIT FOR THE INDICATORS.
WORTH THE EXPENSE THOUGH AS IN THE DARK YOU MIGHT AS WELL PUT A CANDLE IN YOUR BACK WINDOW, SAFER THAN LANDROVER REAR LIGHTS.

for direct replacement LED bulbs keep your eye on Netto. They do them for £1 each :-)

I replaced my relay with a solid state relay, no need for resistors in series.

Had my LEDs fitted for 2 years now and not had to mess with the bulbs once. Well worth it.

how comes your indicators work correctly without the resistors, as everyone i spoke too insisted i would need them, i ignored there advice, and had to go back and buy them after wiring it all in, without a resistor they flash far to fast.

you can buy a special relay that removes the need for the resistors. Take the old one out and put the new one in. Take out the old bulbs and replace with new LED ones. Did mine at the malvern show a couple of years ago and only used a screwdriver.

Something like this on ebay 280171573733   Not saying this is the right one for a defender though

thats handy, noone told me you could get one of them, as ive had to put a resistor in each circuit, not that it matters that much.
I replaced the whole light unit, i think they are what you call the nas spec led units, they are bigger than the origional light units, and flat fronted as opposed to the pointy lens.

I've bought several sets of |LED bulbs and TBH I'm dissapointed, they are nowhere near bright enough.  As a guide I use the 21 watt bulbs for my sidelights

suppose you get what you pay for with these then, as mine for just the 2 x indicators and 2 x stop / tails was nearly £200, but they are quality items and work brilliantly.
i get all my electrical stuff from hella ditributor now as cheap = agro, same as when i used to think i was saving buying britpart, genuine for me now, as most pattern stuff is definately crap, forever changing it.

I know what you mean there

But these LED bulbs I've bought are for the RRC tail lights (didn't make that clear before) and I don't think LEDs have enough power to replace a filament bulb.

Shame because the brake lights light up way faster than a filament bulb, it can make the difference between the following car stopping or hitting you.

Those might be when they are new, but not when they've been on a Sankey for 20 years

Trouble is there's not much option of swapping mine, other than new ones, and as he said it's not worth buying cheap ones either.
