110 1990 TD not holding charge.
« on: November 18, 2007, 02:41:02 »
Now that I'm cruising around in the new toy the 110 has been parked up for
longer periods say 5 to 10 days at a time. Since I've had it it's had issues with holding it's charge.
The battery is new a few months back (last one was too small and similar
issues), Alternator is kicking out fine so I finally got off my butt and
checked the drain.

With an ammeter I checked and the following drains were found on the
battery.

Radio 100mA
Clock 6 mA
Summat else yet untraced 1mA from a brown wire which runs from the battery
in to the engine bay and disappears in to a harness. Everything seems to
work with it disconnected . I'm assuming it's to the alternator????

Is this right for a radio to pull so much current when in standby (i.e.
memory retention only). Surely if an analogue clock can run on 6ma then the
radio is taking the urine a bit, It's getting right on my man boobs!
