90 pulling ????
« on: November 18, 2007, 20:18:45 »
Here is a strange one for all you experts out there.  My 300TDi 90 drives just fine when under power at 50/60 mph but when I take my foot off the throttle it pulls to the right and then to the left when I put the juice back on again.

Wondered if it could just be the Greenway Anaconda tyres flexing as they are a pretty aggressive tread and a bit twitchy on the road.

Any thoughts ???.

Mine does same as yours, dont think its bushes on mine as i replaced them all last year (inc bolts) and its only done about 3k since and it still does it.

i think on mine its the drive flange on the front right inc play in CV etc, there is a lot a play in it where all the others are nice and tight, drive flange so worn you can hear it click as i pull away/slow down.

i'll sort it out when it breaks

the rear axle wouldnt allow it to pull that way,
and its so fractional between the difference in the take up of drive from pass to drivers side that it wont make a difference

i have to fit new trailing arm bushes on mine at least once a month

its rear steer to me this is

its my front axle that has all the play and it doesnt feel like rear steer to me, defo the front end moves.  my rear axle has the solid all in one halfshaft thats part of the drive flange.

you havent seen the amount of play in the drivers side of front axle compared to passenger on mine  supprised it still works.

Like what mine did on the 130 - When it does go bang it sounds a lot worse than it is though!  I ended up with a pair of heavy duty drive flanges from Paddocks, might end up doing back ones too eventually.

SOunds lke a dodgy trailing link bush on the passenger's side, but when you say pulls does it pull the wheel or just veer off to the right.

Another thing, is your 90 lifted lots?

Just veers off to the right and is not lifted.

Ok then yes it sounds like the rear (LH most likely) rear trailing link (radius arm) has a goosed bush in it, my guess is the axle end.

if its been recently replaced, you could have got a duff bush or also the bolts could be coming undone.

Ok so I think we have established that it is the trailing arm bushes, is it worth using Polybushes or do I just stick with standard ones?.

Mine did exactly the same after a trip to Langdale quest. Mine was the passenger side trailing arm bolt had worked loose. This was its first off road trip post a chassis change so all those bolts had been undone, and obviously that one wasn't done up enough.
If theres a harder way to do it I`ll find it!!

Dan, you're a Bl**dy genius mate. Just had a look underneath and just as you said the rear trailing arm bush (chassis end) on the passenger side is totally goosed. Gonna get some polys ordered straight away.

Thanks very much  :D

P.S. Are these "cranked trailing arms" any good and what exactly do they do  :?  :?

Well I've got some (perhaps why I expected it to be the axle end) and mine are from Gwenn lewis.  Top kit, if a lilttle heavy.

At rest with a 2" lift my chassis bushes are pushed up just a little, so that at say 3" they would be all square like on a stock motor.  This is so they can droop a lot more than they compress, gieven the chassis bump stop will always be in the same place.
