petrol pump saga
« on: November 19, 2007, 17:41:24 »
I went to fill up at the forecourt last week and all the pumps where the pump is on the drivers side were full so I reversed from behind the car in front of me and turned to move over to the n/s side pumps. Well I decided that as I needed to stretch over the pump pipe I'd get really close to the pump......and I got too close. Long story short, if you tap a petrol pump with a light guard it'll shift the whole pump over about 1/2 foot and the fiberglass fronts will spring off.

Thought it was funny as until I had a letter saying I had to pay for the repairs and i was to let my insurance company that I was expecting an estimate.

Where do I stand with it, I know I damaged it but it was an accident, don't they have public liability insurance to cover things like this. Everywhere else has big metal bollards to stop you hitting the pump, waitrose by me doesn't  :(

Can i tell them to get lost or not :?:

Sorry but as already said, you'll have to pay :(

There will most likely be CCTV evidence too.
I must confess the the activities of the UK governments for the past couple of years have been watched with frank admiration and amazement by Lord Vetinari. Outright theft as a policy had never occured to him.

Start making a habit of hitting these pumps, and have a habit of squeezing one off regular on the public highway, and they'll slap an ASBO on you in double quick time.

Yep - All these kids tried telling me to drive off and they wouldn't 'grass' me up but I informed them of the CCTV pointing directly in my direction!

ASBO's eh, just for breaking wind ? What happens if you follow through

Looks like my 3 years no claims has just gone up in smoke and also my premium next year. Still, hopefully it'll be the same as the fuel costs - it'll just go up slightly in line with inflation !!!!!!

Follow through eh?  Now that would be criminal, so mebbe a CRASBO.

All the numpties that decide to make a run for it have obviously not seen Police, Camera, Action!  Virtually no-one gets away with it once they are on camera.

If you've done something wrong it's usually common sense to own up to it, but there is a shortage of common sense in the country these days.

Our local Asda has most of lights out on the car park .Recently on a very rainy miserable night I turned a bit soon and clobbered one of the lampposts .Not only are these things out they are painted black for the bottom ten feet.To carry on one almighty bang later the post is bent over and everyone comes over thinking I would be spread all over my dashboard.I got out swore had a look it had damaged the fairlead on the bumper.Every thing else looked ok.The local idiots wanted me to drive off but I gave them my details and let the insurance know. The next thing I get a letter saying I had damaged a petrol pump .Good going as it was thirty yards away from the lamppost.and they want to talk to me and then send it to my insurance.I rang my insurance and told them about the letter .They sais send it to them and a covering letter.I described everything and said I dont accept responsibility as their carpark had poor lighting and they are as much to blame as me.Have to see what happens next.

don't they have public liability insurance to cover things like this.

Public liability insurance is in case the GARAGE does damage to the PUBLIC - not in case the public come along and break their pump!

If you claimed the pump fell on your car, you could claim on their public liability insurance...

How would you like it if someone caught your fence or something turning around!
You would want them to sort it out surely.

depending on how much the repair bill is, you might be able to pay up without involving your insurance ;) might be cheaper than losing your no claims
and also, your insurance might not cover you as you were not on a public road. my insurance wouldnt pay out a few years ago cos i was in a carpark, and i wasnt covered!
