Bloomin' Horses!

One of my treasured night's off work, and what do I end up wasting several hours doing? Taking the gf's dad to go and pick up a bale of haylage for the bloomin' horses. 3 hours to do a ~30 mile round trip, just so that his (and the gf's) beloved dog-food-on-legs can eat. Would have been over quicker, but no, I have to stop in the pub so he can have a 'quick' pint. And then there is the fun of trying to reverse a rubbish, extremely low-to-the-ground trailer over uneven, rocky ground, and then unloading and positioning a round bale by hand.

And all this as his Disco is awaiting insurance work, and he's driving round in a brand new, courtesy Freelander 2 TD4 XS auto, but with no tow hitch.

And to top it all off, the gf is being a moody so-and-so, so all together a total waste of a night off. Roll on work tomorrow!

Tell me about it. The gf's horse caused her a broken arm, yet it's still the best thing since sliced bread. Her dad's horse is just a big money pit. the sun shines out of it's backside. Last year I spent 2 hours in the freezing cold, in the middle of the night, holding a lamp for the vet to clean up a whacking great cut on one of her legs, a day after I broke my finger. This horse has been spoilt rotten since the injury. It was one of those occasions when the vet says something along the lines of "before you decide what to do, you need to work out how much this horse is worth to you". I personally would have been on the phone to Pedigree Chum at that point.

this reminds me of the time i was staying on my dads boat for a few days in belgium
we and my friend went to the supermarket, bought what we thought was beef burgers, enough to feed us for a few days
my parents came out, and joyfully told us we had been eating horse burgers
and damn tastey they were too!!

Think yourself lucky mate..... we (and by that I mean 'she') has 5 of the damn things. Three bales of haylage every fortnight. This year, we've had 40 bales delivered in one go. Huge pile in the field, but at least i don't have to spend regular evenings in the cold and wet  :D

Spent most of the other weekend fixing post and rail fencing that one of them had decided to sit on!

And then there's the £20,000 for the barn/stable block..... just think what I could have done to the Land Rover for that  :lol:

We were looking to buy a house a few years ago when we were still in a rented flat. She spotted 10 acres of grazing for sale, so guess what the priorities were then! Didn't buy a house until a couple of years ago. The dog meat get the home first. We have to wait  :roll:

I have had horses for over 15 years now, I know they cost lots but I would never be with out them now, At the min I have alot of bad things going in my life, but to be with them ,, well it helps me I know that.

That's probably true of many animals. You hear the same with cats, dogs, etc. There can be a calming effect once you get to know them.
I may complain about the horses all the time, and I certainly wouldn't have them myself, but if I'm honest, I don't mind them too much. They came as part of the package when I married Sarah! Hmmmmm...... divorce......  :lol:

Hello chap, I've been riding most of my life and making a professional living from them for about 6 years as an equine stuntman. I wouldn't be without them,

but


There are times I wish I was, winter at 5 in the morning before work and 8 at night after work, I ever the human finger could go so blue :)

2 horses is more than enough! Combine them with the 7 border collies and 9 cats, plus being surrounded by sheep, and you start to go a liiiiittle bit insane!

He does actually have 2 more horses, but luckily they live in a field nearer the village, and are looked after by one of his horse-riding friends.

why have one horsepower when you can have hundreds under one bonnet?!

I'll never fully understand my mrs' obsession with her several clip-clopping
creatures, or the fact her car is carpeted in loose horse hair, or that there are numerous saddles and other paraphernalia cluttering parts of the house, or that whatever the weather she MUST go to the stables  etc. etc.

........but on the plus side the fields where they are kept do contain some excellent axle twisting /mud /water /boggy sections so she can be forgiven

Sorry but I find this a sweeping statement, Me or my Mother have NEVER whipped a horse, in fact the Clydesdale my mother owns had been badly beaten by a "horsey foke" and was scared of humans. We also have a sheltand pony that was very badly treated, Now this is something you on mudclub you will not know,,,,, my mother is an animal welfare officer and has been so for 20+ years, so if you see this kind of treatment going on any where in this country please DONT sit here shouting about it do something!!! Most of you have been very ainti horse on this thread, just think of this the next time you see one that they was here way before any 4X4 and will be here after!

The annoyance is not with family or the horses, just some of the other people involved with horses I've come across over the years.

Horses scare me to death! :shock:  if the thing wants to run you aint got no choice but to hold on and prey, That is why motorbikes were invented! you do have a degree of control and they are cheaper to own! :) and you can be the vet. plus the smell of two stroke exhaust fumes is better than horse poo. and you can let greenpeace worry about the fumes. :lol:
with the exeption of the Kawasaki KX 500 I once raced, there was hardly any control there I can tell you! :lol:  :shock: but id did sound fantastic. Two stroke any day!! :P
