Wheel Bearing replacement
« on: November 22, 2007, 16:45:26 »
Hi all
Has anyone replaced a rear wheel bearing on their Freebie?  If so easy job?  is there anything I should be aware of?

Many thanks in advance

Well I have now replaced both rear wheel bearings.  Things I have found are;
1. The lower bolt seizes in the hub (crap design, bolts are £10 a side)
2. If you haven't got access to a hydraulic press don't even consider attemting the job.
3. You'll need a 400NM yes 400 :shock: Torque wrench with a 32mm socket for the hub/ drive shaft nut each side
3. The quoted time is just over an hour however, I'm an mechanical fitter by trade and so is the chap who assisted me while pressing the bearings in and out.  We believe that the independant who told me an hour a side was being very economic with the truth and 5 hours all in would have been more the ticket.  Add this to the £28 each (Trade) for the bearings and 20 quids worth of bolts and I rekon the bill would have been about £350ish.

When you look that a good press will set you back £250ish go halfs with a mate and you will always have it for future bush replacements etc.

Easy job really, just time consuming. Oh and Rave lies a little.

Thanks to all that look.
