Hi all, i am very tempted to remove the rear seats from my disco and board out the rear, probally false floor to store waffle boards in ? also relocate the spare tyre to a kinda fire wall area behind the front seats, and the main reason is to get some suitable storage for all the "stuff" i carry around,ie- strops ropes shackles ect, any pics would be good
TD5 with a few Tweaks ;o)
a bit more fuel friendly than the V8

Exactly that done to her as she failed the MOT(or would have) on a rear seatbelt mount.

You should have had a damn good look at mine yesterday.... although mines a 2 dr, it now has no rear seats, just loads of nice storage space..... and an internal spare wheel, which moves the weight forward slightly, my high lift is also in there, as is the ground anchor when i take it......
gone from 200tdi.... to 300tdi... still with loads done to it, in fact, even more than the last truck...LOL!!!

Hi ron, It was a passing glance at yours yesterday that  spurred me into action, i cannot remember when anyone sat in the rear of mine, so might as well use the space i say, Im lucky enough to have a retired cabinet maker  as a neighbour, so between us i reckon it should come out ok? what wood would you use ? as i still have the factory fitted leaks  :roll:
 was going to cover the flooor area in the ribbed rubber amtting, as it would be easier to rinse out,
TD5 with a few Tweaks ;o)

Mine was done when i got the truck, it's part of the reason i bought it........
Mine is basically plywood, with additional bit's of 40x40mm.... and the odd length of steel for strength.....

I'll take some pictures when i am at home in daylight, and i remeber.... which could be the sticking point, cos i have the memory of a goldfish.....

I've also removed the rear seats from my Discovery. All I have done is strap a big metal box in the back using the old seat belt mounts.

I've got a sheet of 3/4" ply and no rear seats. had a sofabed in the back last week. loads of space.

i have removed the rear seats and all my interior including the roof lining, sealed the alpine windows and its the best thing i ever did, i cut out the rear seatbelt mounts and welded a plate in instead and flew through the mot no probs :lol:

a) tell the insurance company
b) tell the DVLA?  Its gone from a 7 seater to a 2 seater, if this is on the V5 I presume they'd need to be insured

i did neither of them, as long as u dont take ur old mot certificate to get ur new mot just say uve lost it, u shud be fine thats what i did i said its been a 2 seater ever since ive had it

i would certainley tell the insurance, ultimatley no-one plans to have an accidenty, and if the worst came to it, you could find yourself in the non-exciting brown stuff... then that leads to driving without insurance... you`d also more than likely find theres little or no financial difference... but honesty is the best policy.

the insurance company are aware i have
bucket seats, lifted suspension, larger tyres and different bumpers

i doubt theyd flutter an eyelid if they found i have removed the rear seats it nething it would be a bonus altho i spose its a little easier as mine is a 3 door may maye a difference

by there policy, you will most likely be required to:

State clearly any deviation or modification from manufacturers factory specification, and any alterations to the vehicle which are likely to effect the liability risk upon which the quotation and policy have been based.

they could in the worst case argue that by removing half the interior, the weight reduction has increased performance...

sounds daft i know, but in the event of a whoopsie, they will often try their best to squirm out of paying up!

im with direct line and theyre pretty good with things like that ive had a ding with them a few years back and the car wa smodified and i hadent declared it and they still processed the claim so ive always told all since so ill write them a letter now just to be safe not that its easy to cause any damage to my car neway

technically, to the letter of the law so to speak, yes, even silly things like a change in the make of tyre should be noted, but in reality a more common sense approach would be prefferred.. surely the cost of a phonecall is better than finding out after a bump that the the snorkle you fitted has made it technically more attractive to theives, and thus a higher risk, and therfore out of the scope upon which the quote was based... as said before, some companies can be awkward over silly stuff, and if possible they could easily say that your not covered, as the vehicle isnt whatr they quoted on, therfore breach of contract... then they have you over a barrel.... a friend of a friend had a bump, but because he hadnt told them about a performace backbox (which gives the car at least 1000bhop more!) they wouldnt pay out... unless he paid an additional sum, that would increase the cover to account for it... £500ish! although as a third party was envolved it was pay (and the excess) or be prosecuted for driving with inadequate insurance...


over the barrel in an awkward situation... really its best ust to ask, even if they laugh and say that doesnt change a thing, at least you know you did your bit!

as for non genuine parts, how many vehicles on the road have the same OE bits on them.. very few i`m guessing!

anyway.. back to boot builds! :wink:

I think the requirement is usually to notify them of anything that isn't a "like for like" replacement. Non genuine, but standard replacement, parts are fine, it's when you start upgrading or modifying. I'd spend the 5 minutes on the phone or write 'em a letter to inform them, as it's a lot less hassle than having them turn around refusing to pay out in the event of a claim, stating that your vehicle was modified in a way that they were not aware of.

If I *really* had to I would have got em out and left them out in rear for the duration, but seeing yours where free to hand instead....  8)

I remeber Denvicks having some pretty cool boot setup, but retaining the rear seats.
