<rant>
why do all land rovers go through a good patch and bad patch ?
currently mines going through its " bad patch " and will do so for the next 2 months as usual
its really starting to <edit> me off now to the extent as 9k and you can come and take it away when its all sorted !
everything on it aswel, lockers, shafts cv's 8274's the lot
so far in a month ive managed to :-
completely nacker a 8274 350 ish to sort out
nackerd a steering pump and box 250 ish to sort
replace a bent solid steel track rod
replace nearly all bush's again

and now to top it off, whilst underneath tonight, looked up at the timing chest for no reason at all to spot a damp timing chest cover around the gasket
instantly " oh you can <edit> sprung to mind " whilst grabbing a 13mm spanner to remove the wading plug,
ohh you guessed it ! oil came out
so now, after litrally only just changing the timing belt for a comp 300 miles ago, ive got to take the flipping thing apart, AGAIN !!
argh, its driving me mad now

every time i want to go silverdale, something <edit> !

should have got a suzuki from the start

im going, get cleaned up n calm down

try  a suzuki for a year and see how much your lay under it.

6 years or more i ran my vitara, i did 3 engines. 6 cutches. most of the time a set of bearings every 3 months. and at 70 quid a go. and it usually took out the hub, would  take hours to change as usally they woudl seize to [PooPoo].

Number of diffs, shafts, gearboxes , R&Ps shocks. cam belts a few headgaskets.

I think i stil had the orignal rear axle casing and body tub by the end..

most stuff was expensive too over the landie as i started using second hand but it was false econmy.

would diffeently be a 2 days matinence to 1 days driving and the AA recovery said they might not renew my membership due to the amount of pickups.

but then i would go sticking 33s , roll cage etc etc on it.

So your couple of probs arent anything serious mate, park it up till new year , think how much it owuld take to get something to that spec or the bargins you have got and goodies that take a lot of sourcing :-)

We've had our Defender V8 for neary three years now and, apart from replacing the rad and the alternator (and service items), nothing has ever gone wrong!

We've had our Disco for six months (often driving from Scotland to Southern England in it) and nothing has gone wrong with it, at all.

We have had our TDi for only a couple of months but so far, no problems whatsoever.

I love Land Rovers.

Mine is going through one of it's bad patches again. It had to be taken to the garage on a trailer yesterday, waiting for the bloke to ring me to (hopefully) tell me it's just a knackered clutch, otherwise I've got a big bill on my hands!

After making a comment in the Freelander section earlier in the week on how we had had no real trouble at all with it.... it went and blew not one, but both intercooler hoses   Still, chucked into the local place and all done in a couple of hours.

The old 110 was a constant source of failure..... but it always got us home. I can honestly say we have never been stuck away from home and had to use a recovery truck  :D

I am building the 90 from the ground up so I can build in the reliability that Land Rover left out   Well, that's the plan anyway

Ah joy, the bloke who took my car to the garage for me has just called into the pub to break the good news. My troubles were all down to a disintegrated thrust bearing!
