Hi all, what would the effects be on the rest on the gear of our disco if we fitted 1" suspention spacers?

if you mean what effect on gearing then NONE

if you props and diffs then only small amount like fitting a 2" susp lift, you will need extended break hoses

I've got 1" spring spacers on mine and as yet have seen no bad stuff happening to the suspension or drive line, my motor looks a bit perkier with them on,

I'm not a fan of spacers at all (sorry Wizard).  If your suspension is tired then a set of new sprinsg would be better, they will rstore the lost height and give a better ride as they'l be stronger.

If you're looking for a lift then again I'd say springs not spacers, the extra height will mean you need more help getting round corners.

Add to that if you psace out the springs you risk getting coil-bound at full compression, this can cause springs to shatter.

As RRb says you should lower your bump stops to match any lift or you risk damaging both spring and shock

I'm with RRB, I don't like the spacers. You can buy two new +1" springs for the same price as a set of spacers so it's not that much more to get the full set. Plus it's just as much work to put them on.
Also you have to think that if you raise the suspension, then you also raise the CofG. +1" springs are rated to cope with the extra body roll this will produce in corners but if you stick to standard springs and spacers then you'll be more unstable on cornering.

You may also have to space out the anti roll bars by the same amount as the lift you're putting on to stop them inverting on full articulation. This is true whether you use spacers or springs.

steven, as you may know, ive fitted heavy duty standard height springs(MM4x4) with 20mm spacers, for an accurate lift

along with +2" procomp shocks and rear re-location cones

this setup works very well off road and still handles well on road

id go plus two spacers.
springs are for more travel which for light offroading u wont need. keep the anti rollbars fit longer bumpstop. job done. as for brake pipes ask simon buck at devon 4x4 . think u ll like his answer

I had a set made at my old work with 1.5 inch on the front and 1.75 inch on the rear made out of old machine propshaft. And they do the job ok. Only went that route as they were free. And no differance in the handlng or wear as of yet. but i am looking at a 2" lift kit for it now instead.

fit +2 springs or +1 springs

i would only fit spacers to even up an existing lift kit

anti rollbars if you go offroad with taller springs or shocks you run a very high risk of inverting them & jaming them up

That's providing they're not slightly perished, in which case they just snap and you have no brakes.  

But what do we know Mike?
You only work on them for a living and I've only been doing this sort of thing to Land Rovers for 20 years.  :roll:

Haha, that sounds like a good bit of advice.

I was going to go the spacer route but for the sake of a few quid more I'd rather do it properly

I've fitted both 2" longer heavy duty springs and 2" spacers with 2" extended shocks and 7" extended brake lines and had no problems except for the prop which wore itself out very quickly, overcome that by fitting a TD5 prop. . . . . . .problem solved
