It is possible to change for an ordinary propshaft but you will need to change the flange on the nose of your rear diff as the doughnut version has three holes, where the UJ version has four. Not a huge operation as I understand it and a good one for refreshing your pinion bearing & seal at the same time!Skibum
The rear propshafts are the same on rear, it's only the front that's different on the V8 auto. So you can use an early Disco prop or a Rangie one. ;)One thing with the doughnut, have you only replaced the rubber or have you also replaced the bush inside the propshaft that the flange spigot goes into? You may find that if you replace the bush as well then it won't go through the dough nuts quite so fast.
I don't know who told you the gearbox's were different lengths, but that's not true, though I have found the front props to be different length between the V8 and TDi, for some reason.
