TD5 auto conversion
« on: January 03, 2008, 17:13:41 »
I would like to convert my 90 TD5 to an auto. I have a box from a disco td5 and wondered if anyone has attempted this, as i gather its not that straightforward due to the electronics.
Any ideas or feedback would be welcome.

Check out page 94 to 97 in Febs LRE, full article on that subject.

I have a hp22 in my td5 Defender.

Yes,

Ashcroft built the gear box as I had bigger clutch packs and pump fitted and valved for a diesel I did the rest.

It wasn't too bad just take your time I got all parts for the job from Ashcrofts as they do a nice kit, had to have rear prop altered made 15mm shorter and fitted a front from the discovery 2 auto which is 15mm longer if you leave the gear box with the std pump you can use your prop shafts on the zf22, I think that the 24e is 15mm longer than the std box due to pump.

Give Dave at Ashcrofts a call, he will help you even if you don't buy from him.

It was worth the trouble and cost, it is really nice to drive on and off road.
