This is going to sound as if I am taking the <edit> and slating you but I do not intend it that way :-.

If you apply for jobs by filling in an application form then please make sure your punctuation and spelling are correct.

I have highlighted below the parts of your posts where I consider them to be incorrect. I have in the past been tasked with sifting job applications at the initial application form stage, the first sift is by checking handwriting and spelling etc. Any poorly filled forms are discarded :(

Hi mate, if your willing to do anything.... there's loads of jobs here in Stoke. But, if you want to earn enough to live on..... no chance, all the Polish have taken them! (I'm being serious).
First bus company are always on the lookout for drivers (which aint bad pay). Plenty of agency work if you have a fork/reach license, or a trade. Agency next to Richer Sounds in Hanley will gladly take anyone on (they have a contract with JCB). They pay you daily too, which comes in handy when your unemployed.
I got my job via Temps in hanley, after 7mths i'm now permanent.
Before this Hays in hanley gave me regular work on various building sites... Best thing is to get out there (smartly dressed) and knock on some company doors.
Vodaphone are setting on..... & you can earn a fortune working there £20k - £60k+ (just chatting on phones).

i know the feeling of joblessness :| i have been searching for a part time job to do out of school hours so i can afford to keep the landy running, im failing but ill keep trying, so if anyone knows of any part time jobs with decent hours in mansfield please help,

It is true that you should try and get the spelling correct on your application form - first impressions are important.

The best thing for you to do would be to type the information on a word document on your computer. Then, if you use the spellchecker it will correct any mistakes.  You can then copy the information onto your application form.

Good luck with your job search - you deserve to get a job and I hope you get lucky in 2008

Have you tried supermarkets, macdonalds that sort of thing, other option if you are good with your hands is there not any apprentice schemes you can get on in a garage or something like that. Earn while you learn type thing

If you cannot be bothered to spell check youe application form then it is assumed you cannot be bother to do a good job at work.
May be incorrect in your case but that is how it works.

Find somewhere you want to work, write a cv and have it checked over, write a covering letter saying that your interested in working for the company, and ask if they have any openings.  DO your best not to sound desperate, however hard that may be.

Send it to them, addressed to the big boss, if you can get the right address, else just to the hr dept.

Have you tried registering on monster.co.uk? I've upoaded my cv to there and have had several phone calls asking if I am interested in a position.

Personally the best thing I have done so far (I will be unemployed as of 15th october) was to go onto the Prodrive website, fill out their speculative appication and uploaded a copy of my CV.  About a week later I was invited to an interview and now am waiting confirmation of the dates for a 2 week trial that they have invited me to.

Obviously I am in the fortunate position of having the skill set that they are after, but that approach can open doors that look bolted anywhere..

Don't dismiss retail jobs.
Not the highest paid but there always seems to be demand for unskilled workers and English as first language seems to be normal (so no Polish  :lol:)
My son worked for Wilkinsons, in Leek, when he was a student.
After he's been there 2 years he was paid triple time on a Sunday  :-o
He was paid just over minimum wage so that meant 6 hours each week at £15+ per hour - not bad for a student.
This was every week and he then also worked alternate Saturdays on basic rate.

i never said that my application form's never got spell checked be for i send them off they get spell checked. :lol:

shaun, i have no doubt that your forms are perfect, i think its a bit off that just because we write in slang or conversational english, and we miss out certian letters or full stops, people think you would do that in a job application. i have no doubt with dogged determination and a little bit of luck you will find a perfect job.
