Sky (Satellite)
« on: January 07, 2008, 19:20:02 »
Is anyone else in the Grantham area suffering from lousy reception? The dish is spot on - both strength & quality are at about 90% most of the time, but keep dropping away to b** all.

Newish cable (of decent quality) and newish box as well.  Could be the LNB I suppose, but it's only 6 months old or so, and I've never had one  fail.

And BBC1 is fine, but BBC2 & ITV are out at the moment.  Make sense to anybody?

Im annoyed at sky.  we dont get freeview where we are so we got a dish and got their freesat package or whatever. turns out you dont get most of the freeview chanels. no E4, no DAVE, sod all. just sky 3 and BBC3/4. and on the upstairs box it doesnt even get ch4 or 5!!!. GRRRR!

I have to say that sounds like a problem with the satellite rather than your dish - Our BBC2 and ITV are fine though (on freesat - same satellite). Maybe it is the LNB? I know the Sky dishes aren't exactly top quality having assembled one!

Don't get me started...

We have genuinely free satellite (bought a dish and box and wired it ourselves). We can't get

ITV2
S4C
C4
C5
Most of the Freeview stuff

The reason is that these are still embedded in Sky's encryption system (even the supposedly "free" channels - the sky boxes have built-in decryption hardware). The BBC and most of ITV's output have now broken out of the Sky system, so we can get them. Our "Red Button" doesn't work either for the same reason. Come on BBC, it won't hurt you to stop driving people into the pocket of the Murdoch empire!

To be honest, we'd rather Channel 4 than S4C. At least we'd get the odd decent film then...
