What would you pay... ?
« on: January 14, 2008, 01:53:37 »
If we was to sell our Disco how much would you think it will go for? As we're currently looking at P38's and 110's, bit of a difference but there we go  ;)

Heres the spec...
98 Discovery GS
300TDI, with 141,000 miles on the clock
12 months MOT
4 months tax
New tyres in september 07, AT's
Tinted windows
Light bar, bull bar with spots, fog lamps, work lamp
... and a new £170 Alpine stereo

I can't understand why you'd bother quite honestly.

The BMW engined P38 is slugish, the V8 engines had, shall we say "issues".  Both are full of electricery.

The Defender is a better bet but you won't get as much car for the money.  Unless you need a truck I don't think they are worth the compromise.

Whereas you have a 300TDi, one of the best engines LR ever made, in a car that was registered before 2001 so you only pay £180 road tax and that can't go up too much because it's a 2500cc engine, like every other big deisel in the country (except those that are even bigger).

So what's wrong with your Disco?

Personally I'd have a Defender over a Disco...If nothing else the depreciation wouldn't be an issue
Don't go for the P38...just ask thermidorthelobster
As RRB says stick to the 300tdi or a well maintained Td5.
Advantage of 300tdi is you can run on veg oil & they are very easy to maintain.
Did everyone see that?  Because I will NOT be doing it again!

I converted to veg oil mid december and already saved £147 on about 3 tankfulls ish. Stick with the disco I say.

I would keep the discovery - for the money you would just be going backwards if you bought anything else.

steve i just bought the exact same car as u are selling, 90k on the clock with no lightbar for £2500. you can look for btween £2500-3500 for the disco maybe more on ebay, for that cash any decent 110 is out your price range

Work can buy me the 110 as a company car

I would happily pay 2500-3000 for a decent rust free disco - high spec low mileage

I am looking at a td5 at the moment and would not go back to a 300 at the moment due to the miles i do etc etc. The td5 has only 60K on the clock BUT i have to say i think the 300tdi is a MUCH better vehicle than the td5 i really do.

The front bumper is much more forgiving off road and cheaper. The manual diff is better than the traction control, the seats in the rear (boot) are so much more comfortable especially for adults and i find the rear door easier to ger in and out off.

Also the wheel bearings are £20 a corner, a td5 will see you robbed of £200 at least.

I really wish i still had my 300tdi as there is no way i would consider the td5 a better vehicle.

That said, with 300tdi all now 10years old i think i will have to go td5. A difficult decission indeed.

P.S. I know people tell you to retrofit mech diff locks to the series two but i cant see the point when the 300 has it already.

Keep your 300!
